Job Summary
IG Masonry Support and Keyfix are both part of the Keystone Group of companies. IG Masonry Support headquartered in Swadlincote is a leading innovator in the field of bespoke masonry support products. Whilst Keyfix specialise in the development of non‑combustible cavity trays and masonry accessories providing the complete non‑combustible cavity solution for external masonry facades in projects over 18m.
Working equally across the IG Masonry Support and Keyfix division of the Keystone Group the Technical Specification Manager provides technical advice and design support in a consultancy type role aimed to make the specification process fluid, this in turn results in an increase of Keystone Group specifications on construction plans therefore securing future business sales.
Responsibilities and duties
Target Architects, Engineers and Technical Teams for Developers and Housing Associations to assist in the specification of the Keystone Group products across IGMS, Keyfix, IG/Keystone Lintels.
This is an external role where you will be expected to confidently conduct one‑to‑one meetings in a professional environment.
With the support of our Areas Sales Managers your aim is to attend approx. 8 customer meetings per week with Specifiers.
These meetings ideally should result in the acquisition of IG Masonry Support & Keyfix Specifications. A Specification is when an Architect/Specifier chooses your products to be added to the construction drawings.
Identify new business opportunities by scrutinising planning leads, target lists and other resources across Keyfix, IGMS, IG and Keystone Lintels including various construction intelligence and lead generation services.
Promote a positive image of IG Masonry Support, Keyfix and the wider Keystone Group in the marketplace and maintain, develop and improve relationships at the relevant level within our customers’ organisation.
Support the National Specification Manager and wider sales team working closely with the technical teams to ensure the Keystone Group is the preferred technical and commercial solution for your target customers.
Ensure engagement within our customer base with appropriate and relevant technical contacts, prospect new business and establish relations with those who currently do not interact with the Keystone Group.
Develop and deliver a CPD programme that ensures Keystone Group products are at the heart of all relevant project specifications and opportunities.
Collaborate on technical responsibilities and monitor progress of project schedules and customers in conjunction with the engineering technical team.
Visit technical teams of nominated key accounts and provide feedback on service support and proposed solutions.
Ensure specification targets are achieved or exceeded both personally and in support of our business objectives and report out accordingly.
In line with the direction of relevant group design team ensure best practice in the provision of ongoing technical support to architects and contractors during the design phase of projects, actively promoting IGMS, Keyfix, IG and Keystone Lintels solutions.
Manage targeted campaigns to Architect and Specifiers working closely with the Senior Brand Executives and utilising all of the marketing content available within the business. You will provide feedback on an ongoing basis of your successes and any areas or opportunities for continuous improvement and development.
Liaise closely with relevant colleagues to identify and maximise potential business development opportunities.
Use LinkedIn to identify customers and increase The Keystone Group brand awareness.
Produce insight guidance and reporting to senior management on company goals and KPIs on a monthly basis.
Ensure you maintain up to date and relevant records of all projects and their status on Keylink (CRM).
Attend relevant industry events involving both builders and specifiers. For example CPD Specifi and apprenticeships involving both evening weekend work and overnight stays.
Make sure personal expenditure is managed to achieve best value at all times and in line with company expectations.
Any other duties as reasonably requested by your line manager and within the job holder’s capability.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Relevant third level qualification or equivalent level of experience within specification or business development.
- Proven demonstrable record of successful business development & specification with architects and contractors.
- Excellent knowledge of the construction industry and the technical & commercial processes and in‑depth knowledge of the customer base.
- Commercial awareness and judgment.
- Proven ability to meet goals and challenge competition.
- Well‑developed interpersonal skills and excellent presentation skills.
- Ability to work in high‑pressure, deadline‑driven environment.
- Excellent ability to manage time, meet deadlines and plan work to ensure optimum effectiveness.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel).
