About the Role

The Production Shift Supervisor oversees daily plant manufacturing operations, is responsible for all production equipment, optimizing overall productivity to meet organizational goals, and for the safety, health, and welfare of all shift workers. The position requires an effective communicator with strong leadership skills who is willing to fill in the production shift supervisor rotation, as needed, in a 24/7 operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and administer safety in the production department.
  • Exhibit knowledge of and ensure compliance with all safety regulations.
  • Independently identify and correct safety hazards, counsel and discipline associates for non-compliance with safety rules.
  • Conduct regular safety training, safety topic meetings and task training.
  • Perform area inspections and accident investigations as required.
  • Cooperate with all external inspectors as necessary.
  • Provide strong leadership to a union workforce to maintain optimum production and product quality.
  • Support, motivate, and coach the workforce to keep a productive shift operating.
  • Assign hourly union employees work, review and approve hours worked in appropriate job categories on timecards.
  • Understand and supervise maintenance issues and report information as accurately as possible.
  • Complete all environmental forms/reports in a timely fashion to maintain compliance.
  • Effectively administer and demonstrate a thorough knowledge of collective bargaining agreement; be able to implement and issue discipline according to Keystone’s Code of Conduct.
  • Identify training needs and provide training and development opportunities to employees.
  • Order parts, rental equipment, or services related to production, and initiate work orders when needed, using SAP.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Associate or bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years working in heavy industry required; management/supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment desired.
  • Must be able to successfully interact and collaborate in a team environment.
  • Computer skills, proficient in Microsoft applications required.
  • Experience in SAP and working knowledge in a timecard system preferred.
  • Practical knowledge of cement manufacturing equipment and operations.
  • Able to physically inspect plant properties where climbing steps and ladders, observing at heights, and traversing uneven work surfaces is required.
  • Able to wear all required MSHA personal protective equipment.
  • Proper wear and use of respirator, when needed.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced plant environment.
