Purpose of the Role

To work directly in the classroom to deliver tailored 1:1 interventions and targeted support for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP). By expertly implementing bespoke strategies, you will remove barriers to learning, foster independence, and ensure every child is empowered to make meaningful academic and personal progress. In addition, you will assist teachers in delivering education and care to pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviours. We are a small school which effectively supports children through their educational journey. Our pupils may have previously experienced significant and prolonged periods of disengagement and/or disaffection in their education. This may have impacted negatively upon their previous levels of achievement and motivation to succeed at school. We are committed to making sure that all pupils learn and are engaged in a meaningful and worthwhile education, which provides them with the means to enjoy achievement, success, and increased independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, and behavioural challenges while delivering targeted interventions and record data for colleagues.
  • Collaborate with the School SENDCo delivering interventions and classroom support under guidance of SENDCO and Assistant SENDCO and EHCP outcomes.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, welfare teams, clinical professionals, and external professionals.
  • Assist pupils with learning activities, adapting support to individual needs under teacher guidance encouraging pupil engagement and independence in learning tasks.
  • Support record‑keeping and monitoring of pupil progress as directed.
  • Assist pupils’ social, emotional, and behavioural development using trauma‑informed approaches and participate in training on trauma‑informed and therapeutic approaches.
  • The postholder will actively promote and embed the EPIC values (Excellence, Passion, Integrity, Caring) in all aspects of their work and adhere strictly to the Staff Code of Conduct to create a safe, respectful, and nurturing environment that promotes pupil wellbeing and achievement.
  • Ensure compliance with Independent School Standards and all relevant health and safety regulations.

Requirements

  • A committed and passionate view of students with SEND and SEMH.
  • At least two years’ experience minimum of working in a SEND environment or similar unit/provision.
  • A Level 3 TA qualification is advantageous.
