Purpose of the Role

To plan and deliver high-quality, inclusive teaching that meets the diverse needs of pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviours. The Teacher will model professional integrity and the EPIC values, work collaboratively within the school community, and adhere strictly to the Staff Code of Conduct to promote a safe, respectful, and nurturing learning environment.

At Heckington House School, we offer specialist provision for students with SEMH and those who have found mainstream education difficult. Our facilities include small, nurturing classrooms fully equipped with smart boards to facilitate learning. We provide vocational subjects such as Hair and Beauty and Construction alongside traditional curriculum areas. Our class sizes are based on a model of 4 students to 2 adults enabling us to provide a trauma-led approach to both pastoral support and educational progress.

Key Responsibilities

  • This role is open to specialists who can teach within construction, engineering, or mechanics.
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour and learning, consistent with the school’s behaviour policy and Staff Code of Conduct.
  • Collaborate with teaching assistants and specialist staff to provide effective support.
  • Plan and teach lessons, working with small groups and individual students.
  • Author clear, compliance-ready curriculum plans, IEPs and progress reports.

Requirements

  • A committed and passionate view of students with SEND.
  • At least two years’ experience minimum of working in a SEND environment or similar unit/provision.
  • QTS/QTLS is a requirement.
