Our client is a dynamic and fast-growing energy trading firm with a strong footprint in emerging markets. As part of their strategic expansion, we are looking for a highly experienced Senior Commodity Trader with deep expertise in the Oil & Gas sector and a solid track record across African markets.
Position Overview: The Senior Commodity Trader will be responsible for developing and managing trading strategies, maintaining key relationships, and executing physical and/or paper trades in oil and gas products across African markets. You will bring a strong network of industry contacts, proven risk management skills, and a deep understanding of the region's regulatory and logistical landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and develop trading opportunities in crude oil, refined products, and natural gas within African markets.
- Execute and manage trades to maximize profitability while controlling risk.
- Build and maintain relationships with producers, refiners, NOCs, and key stakeholders across the region.
- Monitor market developments, geopolitical factors, and price movements to inform trading strategies.
- Coordinate with logistics, finance, and compliance teams to ensure smooth execution of transactions.
- Ensure full compliance with all internal policies and external regulations.
- Contribute to business development and strategic growth in the region.
Profile Required:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in oil and gas commodity trading, with at least 5 years focused on African markets.
- Strong network of contacts in the region (upstream/downstream players, government bodies, traders, etc.).
- Deep knowledge of the physical trading lifecycle, including shipping, contracts, pricing, and hedging tools.
- Proven track record of profitable trading and risk management.
- Excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills.
- Fluent in English; French or Portuguese is a strong advantage.
- The role can be based everywhere in the EU - please consider a 50% travel time.
