Location Ipswich, Suffolk π Start Date 1 September 2025 β Role Overview Weβre seeking a Senior Engineer to oversee engineering delivery on a major civil infrastructure project. You will ensure all works are carried out in line with technical drawings, agreed specifications, approved procedures, and project plans, while also guiding and mentoring site engineers and trainees. π· Rate Β£350βΒ£450 per day π οΈ Primary Duties * Prepare and review risk assessments, method statements, and task briefings, ensuring they are communicated to the team and followed correctly. * Drive a zero-harm culture by promoting safe working practices and supporting project safety objectives. * Set up and maintain project controls and site systems in accordance with company procedures, covering health, safety, quality, and engineering standards. * Review and verify permits provided by the Principal Contractor, ensuring timely receipt for scheduled works. * Assess short-term lookahead schedules, provide constructive feedback, and highlight potential delays. * Identify, investigate, and resolve on-site issues that could impact progress or programme delivery. * Interpret and apply design drawings, specifications, and setting-out requirements to ensure accurate construction. * Liaise with the Temporary Works Coordinator to define temporary works needs, draft design briefs, communicate designs to the site team, and monitor adherence. * Raise and manage Material Approval Records (MARs) and coordinate material procurement in line with programme needs. β Candidate Profile Experience * Previous background as a Senior Engineer or similar role with a civil engineering contractor. * Proven track record in general civils within highways β including site clearance, drainage and ducting, earthworks, road pavements, kerbs, footways, and street lighting. * Familiarity with CDM regulations and temporary works requirements. * Strong understanding of specifications and testing for general civil works and highway standards. * Commercially aware, with experience delivering projects in cost-sensitive environments. Skills & Competence * Capable leader with good team coordination skills. * Proactive on health, safety, environment, and quality (HSEQ) issues. * Experience with digital field tools such as Fieldview, Dalux, or equivalent. * Proficient in design tools such as AutoCAD, Autodesk, or SketchUp (desirable). Qualifications * Degree or HNC in Civil Engineering (or equivalent). * Membership of the ICE or working towards this (desirable). * IOSH Managing Safely or SMSTS. * Valid CSCS card. * Full UK driving licence. * Legal right to work in the UK
