Overview
We are currently recruiting Highways Operatives to join a leading highways contractor on works in Newton Abbot. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who take pride in delivering safe, high-quality work on time and to specification. You will work as part of a site gang, supporting supervisors and site management in completing essential highways works.
Responsibilities
- Carry out tasks set by site supervisors and gangers to the required standard.
- Ensure full understanding of all relevant risk assessments, method statements, and site briefings before commencing work.
- Operate plant, tools, and equipment safely and carry out routine pre-use checks.
- Maintain a safe and tidy working environment at all times.
- Deliver works to programme deadlines while adhering to quality and safety standards.
- Maximise productivity by effectively managing own working time.
- Ensure compliance with permits, site instructions, and safety requirements.
- Report any health & safety concerns, near misses, or close calls promptly to the site supervisor.
- Actively participate in daily briefings, toolbox talks, and safety forums.
Key Skills & Requirements
- Previous experience as a Highways Operative or similar role in civil engineering/highways environment.
- Good understanding of health & safety requirements on site.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Proactive approach to problem-solving and communication with site management.
- At least one operative within the team must hold a valid CPCS/NPORS ticket.
