What You’ll Be Doing

As Branch Manager of our high-performing Birmingham branch, you’ll lead and inspire a diverse team of 13 colleagues, including sales professionals, drivers, and warehouse experts, while overseeing a fleet of 5 delivery vehicles. With a turnover of £10m, this is a busy, fast-paced environment that requires a leader who can balance operational excellence with commercial growth. Your mission? Maximise growth, drive success, and keep everything running smoothly, all while prioritising safety. You’ll have a deep understanding of the market and your customers, ensuring your team is focused on the right opportunities.

A Note on Hours: While the standard contract is 40 hours, we operate with "hours to suit the business needs." The branch trades from 06:30 to 16:30; to ensure the branch is set for success, we expect a typical working week of 42.5 hours.

Who You Are

We are ideally looking for a candidate with a strong Civils Merchant background. To be successful in this £10m turnover branch, you’ll need to be:

  • Experienced: At least 3 years in merchanting (ideally Civils) or multi-site distribution with a proven track record of delivering growth.
  • Commercial & Results-Driven: You understand P&L, manage stock efficiently, and have the drive to meet ambitious budgets and operating plans.
  • A Natural Leader: Able to manage a team of 13, focusing on high performance, safety, and succession planning.
  • Customer-Centric: Comfortable negotiating face-to-face with key customers and suppliers to build long-term value.
  • Safety Champion: You lead by example, ensuring a gold-standard safety culture for your drivers and warehouse team.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

  • Leading High Performance: Set ambitious goals for your 13 colleagues, tracking performance and developing talent through 1-2-1s.
  • Customer Service & Sales: Build lasting relationships with your "Top 10" customers and identify new growth opportunities in the local Civils market.
  • Operations & Transport Excellence: Oversee the efficiency of your 5-vehicle fleet, ensuring compliance and optimal delivery service.
  • Managing Commercial Growth: Capitalise on market trends, manage working capital, and maintain strong supplier relationships to protect your £10m turnover.
