Job Summary
We are excited to be recruiting a highly self-motivated Paediatric Nurse to join our experienced team. Clinical Educator to our Support Teams to provide high quality support to children with complex needs. This will include training and competency support for community-based nursing support packages for children and young people with complex and long-term conditions/needs including Acquired/Traumatic Brain Injury, Neurological Conditions, Spinal Injury, Palliative Care, Tracheostomy, Ventilation support, PEG support and Catheter care etc.
You will be responsible for the facilitation of a high-quality learning environment to ensure the children and young people KEYFORT support have safe, effective, caring and responsive care teams. You will work closely with a variety of departments including management, support workers and external professional organisations to ensure education is an excellent standard. You will also have the opportunity to be involved in support delivery, guiding teams with effective support planning and risk assessments. Your focus must always be to enable staff teams to make a real difference to the children and young people we support. A self-starter with a positive problem-solving attitude is essential.
Job Responsibilities
Location: NE and NW, some hybrid working, some office working with occasional travel to regional offices. To lead the delivery of high-quality clinical training and competency processes to enable KEYFORT in delivering safe, effective, responsive, caring and well-led support for now and into the future. To deliver training and competency support for community-based nursing support packages for Children with complex and long-term conditions/needs including acquired/traumatic brain injury, neurological conditions, spinal injury, palliative care, tracheostomy, ventilation support, PEG support and catheter care etc. To be responsible for ongoing competencies and training using evidence-based methods which embrace Person-Centred Care, nursing practice models and shared decision making. To provide supervision and observe support staff to ensure the agreed support plan is being achieved and support routines are being actioned. To promote and facilitate a progressive learning environment for all KEYFORT services requiring nursing support. To safeguard people at all times. To work alongside all services to develop packages which meet the needs of individuals by assessing their support needs, as well as identifying and agreeing support goals and care plans with people we support, their next of kin, commissioners and other professionals. To manage a nursing caseload within the North East region, identifying and delivering the appropriate support plans.
Main duties
- Clinical: To act as an effective role model within KEYFORT. To work within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct. To adhere to CQC Key Lines of Enquiry at all times. To work alongside the training department and senior managers to assess, plan, implement and evaluate clinical training delivery across Children’s Services. To support in overseeing the delivery of clinical support activities such as advanced medication, PEG care, ventilator care, tracheostomy care, catheter care, skin care, bowel therapy and any future training needs which are identified as clinical. To work in partnership with the Training department to identify training needs and identify solutions. To provide supervision, support, guidance and training to members of staff delivering care when identified under the clinical nursing remit. To communicate clearly and effectively with all, at all times using a variety of methods. To be responsible for maintaining own professional registration and revalidation by identifying opportunities which meet clinical needs. To develop strong relationships with nursing colleagues at KEYFORT and externally to identify practices and work in a solution-focused way.
- Support Provision: If identified, to carry a caseload of people we support who require nursing-based needs. To safeguard people receiving support at all times and always act in their best interests. When required, to support the initial assessment process of new referrals to KEYFORT. To develop professional supportive relationships with people we support and their next of kin from the initial meeting and throughout their time with KEYFORT. Ensuring that training is tailored to meet their individual requirements. To create and evaluate nursing care plans for support workers to follow and implement. To carry out risk assessments of support tasks and support needs, identifying steps to take to minimise and manage identified risks. When required, to take part in the identification and/or recruitment of support staff based on persons needs and preferences. To arrange, attend and facilitate team meetings, multi-disciplinary team meetings and review meetings when clinical nursing needs are identified. To ensure the CQC Operations Manager, Service Manager and Partnerships Manager are kept up to date on delivery, achievements, concerns or issues within the role.
- Training: To lead in the provision of clinical skills training across the organisation within identified areas including PEG care, ventilator care, tracheostomy care, catheter care, skin care, bowel therapy and any future training needs which are identified as clinical. To ensure a quality learning environment for delegates which meets their learning styles. To undertake training needs analysis which support the delivery of services. To develop a directory of learning materials which can be used by supporting staff. To develop appropriate evaluation methods of training to determine the effectiveness of the delivered education. To ensure all new support staff are deemed competent prior to lone working within remit of nursing practices. To lead in identifying staff requiring staff refreshers and proactively provide the training needed. To support the delivery of training to staff in individual support needs, in partnership with the training team.
- Administrative Tasks: To work using Microsoft Office 365 across major applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. To be competent in KEYFORT online software in the monitoring of training/competencies through the creation of reports. To be able to write comprehensive care plans and risk assessments when requested. To develop, maintain, train others and update files including Office File, Home File and Medication File. To keep written minutes of all meetings attended and ensure minutes are distributed to the appropriate people. To complete relevant forms and reports such as incident forms, timesheets, annual leave forms, etc. To maintain open and accurate communication with all including people we support and their next of kin, support staff, management teams, commissioners and external professionals.
- General Duties: To contribute to case review and team meetings, by providing updates on the delivery of training and competencies. To contribute to the development of the Children’s services by identifying best practice ways of working. To manage, record and report incidents and accidents. To undertake any other duties and training as directed to meet the requirements of the role. To act in a professional manner and promote the company’s high-quality reputation and integrity. Person Specification
Experience Essential
- Proven experience of working with long term conditions in a community setting.
- Clear knowledge and understanding of the needs of people with long-term conditions.
- Knowledge of NICE guidelines, CQC outcomes and standards.
- Proven experience of training and supervising Healthcare assistants/support workers.
- Experience working as part of a team and autonomously.
- Experience of working with Children and young people with ventilators, tracheostomies, PEGs and catheters.
Qualifications Essential
- Diploma or Degree in nursing or related field.
- Current and active NMC registration.
- Proven evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to nursing and areas of specialty.
