This role will specifically support a regional Commercial Portfolio Management team focused on the West Region. As such, the SVP PM Manager is expected to bring a strong understanding of regional dynamics, client needs, and market practices relevant to West Region commercial clients. The role requires flexibility and availability to work effectively across U.S. time zones in order to support deal teams, Credit discussions, and business partners aligned to the West Coast. The role will require frequent availability for meetings in Western time zones.
The Senior Vice President, Portfolio Management Manager (SVP, PM Manager) is responsible for managing and developing an assigned team of Portfolio Managers within the Banking Group Portfolio Management (BGPM) team, and, on some specialty teams, may also have direct management of a small, assigned portfolio of clients. The SVP, PM Manager is accountable for understanding and representing the metrics of their team's portfolio and how it fits into Key's lending portfolio overall. The SVP, PM Manager will partner with sales leaders and business partners to deliver Key's balance sheet to clients, while assisting in relationship building and cross selling additional bank products utilizing a deep understanding of Key's risk culture and effectively managing risk/reward tradeoffs.
The SVP, PM Manager should demonstrate leadership by example, promoting independence, growth, and autonomy for team members to develop their careers while bringing their authentic, best selves to work every day. The SVP, PM Manager must be able to carry themselves well in a variety of situations, managing vertically and horizontally, promoting change agility, best practice sharing, process improvement and positively influencing the direction of the entire deal team while building strong internal and external partnerships. As part of the first line of defense, SVP, PM Managers are expected to consistently demonstrate a solutions-oriented, growth mindset that is supportive of line of business goals while still maintaining a moderate risk appetite and upholding asset quality.
Responsibilities
- Work with PM Leadership and other SVP PM Managers to manage the group’s workflow, leveraging resources appropriately and assigning new opportunities with consideration for experience level, development, industry knowledge and geographic location.
- Oversee the deal lifecycle for new opportunities; this may include pre-screening, guiding PMs and business partners to ensure proper and effective risk management and deal execution while balancing the needs of Key’s balance sheet vis a vis market-clearing structure.
- Evaluate complex transactions and recommend deals and structures to deal team members and Credit Risk Management that will accommodate the client and Key keeping risk/return in mind.
- Ensure the quality of work submitted by PMs to credit partners is accurate and thorough, reviewing work and coaching PMs as necessary.
- Ensure underwriting best practices, LCF determination and Credit Policy are upheld.
- Consult and review with team members to ensure that all assets are appropriately risk rated at all times, with timely changes.
- Guide and support PM team members to work closely with their deal team and outside counsel to ensure effective legal documentation.
- Oversee the quarterly and annual review workflow and ensure that PMs are effectively utilizing, and providing feedback to, third party resources.
- Demonstrate an enterprise mindset by partnering with sales leaders and business partners to support the bank's relationship model while adhering to Key’s risk culture practices, effectively managing risk/reward tradeoffs.
- Manage employee performance and development: complete manager evaluations, provide coaching and career development recommendations, participate in talent and performance calibrations and assess the "what" and "how" factors of performance.
- Ensure that employee training and compliance is completed in a timely manner.
- Take a lead role in developing the bench for new PM talent, including support for, and active participation in, talent acquisition/recruiting efforts.
- Coordinate and/or assist in gathering ad hoc data as periodically required by senior management or risk partners.
- In some cases, directly manage a small portfolio of corporate credit client relationships; monitoring business conditions and/or identifying new underwriting, and/or additional bank product opportunities, while securing the bank's position to minimize potential losses.
- Develop and maintain a network of contacts and resources throughout the bank in order to facilitate collaboration, appropriately elevate issues, quickly resolve problems, and enlist in-house experts to share knowledge with BGPM.
- Perform other duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities and/or activities may change or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.
- Comply with all KeyBank policies and procedures, including without limitation, acting professionally at all times, conducting business ethically, avoiding conflicts of interest, and acting in the best interests of Key’s clients and Key.
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience in finance, accounting, economics and/or business (required)
- Master’s Degree /MBA (preferred)
Experience Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of commercial underwriting, credit banking, or financial services experience, with industry expertise aligned to the assigned specialty (required)
- Competent with Microsoft Office and ability to learn and effectively utilize other technology applications (required)
- Broad experience with a variety of financial analysis/modeling scenarios including knowledge of secured and unsecured corporate cash flow lending (required)
- Extensive experience leveraging research, due diligence and prior deal knowledge to challenge assertions, assess corporate creditworthiness and provide recommendations for structuring and developing an underwriting package (required)
- Proven track record of efficiently and effectively identifying, executing and coordinating the delivery of comprehensive solutions for the lending product and advising others regarding underwriting process and best practices (required)
- Proven record of success managing a diverse portfolio, including left lead/administrative agent, and complex syndicated deals where strong relationships with credit and business partners and significant legal documentation experience were required (required)
- Proven success building client relationships, managing conflict resolution, and influencing to drive for effective business results (required)
- Extensive experience leading counsel and deal teams through credit agreement negotiation and documentation (required)
- Demonstrated enterprise mindset; extensive understanding of banking and investment banking products and services and current market dynamics, trends, and terms with a track record of delivering Key's relationship banking model to clients (required)
- Excellent presentation and communication skills, with the ability to collaboratively influence and challenge (required)

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This position is eligible to earn a base salary in the range of £128,000.00 - £268,000.00 annually. Placement within the pay range may differ based upon various factors, including but not limited to skills, experience and geographic location. Compensation for this role also includes eligibility for incentive compensation which may include production, commission, and/or discretionary incentives.
