We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to support the delivery of coordinated mechanical building services designs across a range of built environment projects.
This opportunity would suit someone at Intermediate to early Senior level who can take ownership of technical design work, produce practical project outputs and communicate clearly with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
The Role
You will help deliver buildable, coordinated mechanical designs, balancing technical performance, energy use and project requirements.
- Clarify project briefs, operating requirements and design constraints
- Prepare or check heating, cooling and ventilation calculations
- Support equipment selection, schedules and technical specifications
- Coordinate plant space, routes and interfaces with electrical, public health, architectural and structural teams
- Manage assigned deliverables and design changes against agreed programmes
- Support design reviews, client meetings, site queries and surveys where required
- Maintain clear design records and support less-experienced colleagues where appropriate
What we are looking for
- Strong HVAC, heating, cooling and ventilation design knowledge
- Experience producing calculations, specifications and coordinated drawing packages
- Degree, HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services or a related discipline
- Ability to explain technical assumptions and design decisions clearly
- Good multidisciplinary coordination and communication skills
- Experience working within a consultancy or building services design environment
- IES VE, Hevacomp or equivalent calculation/modelling tools
- Commercial, education, healthcare or industrial building project exposure
- Progress towards chartership
