We are recruiting for a Construction Skills Teacher (Plastering / Joinery) to join a specialist education provider delivering hands-on vocational learning within a supportive SEND / Alternative Provision setting. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced construction tutor, FE lecturer, assessor, trainer, or skilled tradesperson looking to transition into education and make a real difference to young people's lives.
The Role
- You will deliver engaging and practical construction skills training, helping learners develop:
- Plastering / joinery / multi-skills knowledge
- Employability and workplace behaviours
- Confidence and independence
- Safe workshop habits and practical trade skills
- You'll be teaching students with SEND, SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and learners who may have experienced school avoidance or low confidence.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver practical plastering/joinery sessions
- Teach Level 1 / introductory construction skills
- Adapt lessons to meet diverse learner needs
- Maintain workshop safety, PPE and risk controls
- Monitor learner progress and engagement
- Work closely with pastoral, safeguarding and curriculum teams
About You
- Background in plastering, joinery, carpentry, or construction multi-skills
- Experience in teaching, tutoring, assessing, mentoring or coaching desirable
- Qualifications such as AET, PTLLS, DTLLS, PGCE or QTLS are helpful but not essential
- Strong communication, patience and behaviour management skills
- Passion for supporting young people in specialist education
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
