We are recruiting a Rural Chartered Surveyor to support the management and development of the Devon County Farms Estate.
This is an excellent opportunity for an MRICS-qualified rural property professional with practical experience in agricultural tenancies, farm lettings, rent reviews, rural valuations and estate management.
The role will suit someone who can combine technical rural surveying expertise with strong landlord-and-tenant, negotiation and client-management skills.
Key responsibilities
• Managing Agricultural Holdings Act and Farm Business Tenancy agreements
• Handling farm lettings, lease renewals, tenancy changes and rent reviews
• Supporting the management of equipped farms and let agricultural holdings
• Undertaking agricultural, rural property and asset valuations
• Advising on landlord-and-tenant matters and negotiating with occupiers
• Managing wayleaves, easements, access rights and compensation claims
• Conducting property inspections and preparing professional reports
• Advising on estate strategy, asset performance and rural property matters
• Supporting compliance, maintenance and improvement activity across the estate
• Building effective relationships with tenants, landowners, professional advisers and other stakeholders
Essential requirements
• MRICS qualification through the Rural or a closely related pathway
• Relevant rural land management, estate management or surveying qualification
• Practical experience in rural surveying or agricultural estate management
• Knowledge of AHA and FBT tenancies
• Experience of agricultural landlord-and-tenant matters
• Strong negotiation, report-writing and stakeholder-management skills
• Ability to attend the Exeter office and travel across the Devon estate when required
Highly desirable
• FAAV qualification
• RICS Registered Valuer status
• Agricultural and Red Book valuation experience
• Experience managing equipped farms or a substantial let agricultural estate
• Farm lettings, lease renewals and agricultural rent-review experience
• Experience with wayleaves, easements and compensation claims
• Local-authority, public-sector or institutional rural estate experience
