What if your next career move wasn't just about leading a design team, but helping shape the future of low-carbon engineering?
We're supporting a growing engineering business that's investing heavily in its decarbonisation capability and is looking to appoint an exceptional Head of Design to lead the next phase of its engineering journey. This isn't simply another senior management position. It's an opportunity to shape technical strategy, develop outstanding engineering talent and influence the delivery of innovative, low-carbon solutions that will help transform the built environment.
If you've reached the point in your career where creating lasting impact matters more than simply managing another design team, this could be exactly what you've been waiting for.
Why This Opportunity Is Different
This isn't a traditional Building Services consultancy. It's an engineering business that designs, manufactures, installs and supports its own solutions, giving its engineering teams genuine influence across the complete project lifecycle. Rather than handing designs over for someone else to deliver, you'll work alongside manufacturing, commercial and operational teams to ensure every solution is technically robust, commercially viable and genuinely buildable.
With more than two decades of sustained growth, a significant presence across the UK and Ireland and continued investment in innovation, the business has become a recognised leader in offsite MEP, energy infrastructure and decarbonisation engineering. Large enough to deliver landmark projects. Agile enough for your ideas to influence the future of the business.
The Opportunity
This is a role for someone who leads through technical credibility. You'll provide direction, challenge conventional thinking, develop exceptional people, and help shape the delivery of complex decarbonisation projects that will support the UK's transition towards a more sustainable future.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
- Lead and develop multidisciplinary Mechanical, Electrical and BIM design teams.
- Provide technical leadership across complex Building Services and decarbonisation projects.
- Review engineering solutions, challenge design decisions and drive engineering excellence throughout the project lifecycle.
- Establish technical standards, governance and best practice across the wider design function.
- Work collaboratively with manufacturing, commercial and operational teams to develop practical, buildable and commercially successful engineering solutions.
- Mentor and develop the next generation of engineering leaders.
You’ll have the autonomy to make decisions, the trust to influence strategy, and the opportunity to help shape the future direction of one of the UK's leading decarbonisation engineering businesses.
Who We're Looking For
This opportunity is likely to appeal to someone currently operating as a Head of Design or perhaps someone who's ready to step into their first strategic leadership position. Your background is likely to be within Mechanical Building Services, supported by strong multidisciplinary MEP design experience and the technical credibility to lead senior engineering teams. Experience delivering decarbonisation, energy, heat network or sustainable Building Services projects would be highly advantageous.
More importantly, you'll enjoy developing people, challenging convention and driving engineering excellence across technically demanding projects.
Why Join?
This is a business that continues to invest in innovation, engineering excellence and long-term sustainable growth. You'll be joining an organisation where technical leadership is genuinely valued, where collaboration sits at the heart of project delivery and where you'll have the opportunity to influence not only today's projects, but the future of decarbonisation engineering itself.
Some opportunities change jobs... Others help shape an industry. If you're looking for another Head of Design role, this probably isn't it. If you're looking for the opportunity to lead technical strategy, influence the future of low-carbon engineering and develop exceptional engineering teams, I'd love to have a confidential conversation.
