Are you an MRICS Chartered Building Surveyor looking for a broader role where you can genuinely own your work, build client relationships and avoid being boxed into one narrow specialism? I’m looking to speak with experienced Senior Building Surveyors for a varied commercial building consultancy opportunity in Bristol. This is a hands-on, client-facing role covering both professional and project services, with plenty of autonomy and the opportunity to take instructions from initial brief through to delivery.
What you’ll be working on:
- Condition and pre-acquisition surveys
- Technical due diligence and defect diagnosis
- Dilapidations and schedules of condition
- Refurbishment, repair and maintenance projects
- Specifications and schedules of work
- Tendering, procurement and contract administration
- Employer’s Agent and project delivery responsibilities
- Party Wall, CDM and Building Regulations matters
- Client meetings, advice and stakeholder management
- Fee proposals, repeat instructions and business development
- Mentoring and supporting junior surveyors
What we’re looking for:
- MRICS Chartered Building Surveyor
- Minimum 3 years post-qualification experience
- Current commercial building consultancy experience
- Strong professional services experience, ideally including surveys, TDD, dilapidations and defects
- Project delivery experience across specifications, tendering, procurement and contract administration
- Confidence managing clients and contractors directly
- Strong technical report writing and commercial judgement
- Comfortable managing several instructions independently
Experience across offices, industrial/logistics, retail, mixed-use, education, healthcare or student accommodation would all be relevant.
Particularly attractive backgrounds:
We’re especially interested in surveyors who have developed in small or mid-sized commercial consultancies where they have had genuine ownership of their work. If you’re currently in a larger consultancy, that can absolutely work too, provided you can demonstrate broad hands-on experience rather than being limited to one specialist service line.
Why consider it?
- A genuinely broad building surveying remit
- More ownership of client instructions
- Direct exposure to senior decision-makers
- A mix of professional and project work
- The chance to mentor and develop others
- Greater visibility over your own client relationships and career progression
- A Bristol-based hybrid working model, with client-site days counting toward office attendance
You’ll need to be practical for the Bristol office and client sites, with the role operating on a 60% office/site and 40% home basis. A valid UK driving licence is also required.
If you’re MRICS with 3+ years PQE and want a role where you can combine technical expertise, project delivery and genuine client ownership, I’d love to hear from you.
