This is a workshop-based role (some occasional short periods of UK/overseas travel may be required) for a workshop Mechanical Fitter/Engineer (MF). Requiring autonomous working at times and an understanding of the workings of a mechanical build workshop. Responsible to the Production Manager (PM) for completing all allocated tasking safely, mechanical build projects of compressors, and similar machinery within allocated timescales and to the required quality standard. It requires the post holder to co-ordinate all allocated resources and consult effectively with internal co-workers. The MF is to constantly seek to improve his skill of hand and mechanical knowledge by learning from the PM and Senior Commissioning Engineers (SCEs).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Mechanical fitting and equipment build, i.e., compressors and machinery
- Safe operation of hand/electrical tools, pillar drills, grinding wheels, etc.
- Collate and check parts lists to build components
- Be competent to follow production to engineering drawings
- Assist to maintain stock levels of workshop consumable stores
- Assist with incoming and outgoing inspections on all parts and assemblies
- Required to undertake manufacturing tasks and assist the throughput of work through the workshop under the supervision and direction of the PM and SCEs
- To seek advice and guidance from the PM and SCEs on best practices and methods of manufacture, for inside and outside of the Workshop
- Ensuring that all current company policy and procedures are understood and followed
- To conduct any other tasking as directed by his managers
- The post holder may have to work out of hours and overtime occasionally
- The post holder may have to travel within and outside the UK in support of company projects occasionally
Qualifications:
Must hold level 3 or 4 vocational qualification/HNC in an engineering subject, or equivalent experience and willing to be trained to achieve certification at this level.
Specialised knowledge:
The minimum requirement for the post of MF is an indentured engineering apprenticeship in mechanical engineering and 3 years post apprenticeship experience or equivalent work experience (circa 7 years).
Skills:
Assembly, test, fault finding and rectification of mechanical components and machines. A good understanding and experience of using test equipment, (pressure testing, vacuum dehydration, electrical/electronic, brazing experience would be considered an advantage). Good interpersonal communication and organisational skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
