My client is seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer to carry out maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and commissioning of heavy machinery at customer sites across the UK. This role is ideal for a technically skilled engineer who enjoys working independently while delivering a high level of customer service.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring equipment reliability, minimising downtime, and supporting customers with effective technical solutions in the field. This is a front-line brand ambassador role with direct responsibility for customer satisfaction, cost control, and revenue protection.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic faults
- Carry out servicing, inspections, warranty repairs, and machine commissioning
- Complete major component replacements and software diagnostics
Customer Support
- Act as the main technical contact on customer sites
- Provide professional updates and operational guidance to customers
- Escalate recurring issues and identify additional service opportunities
Administration & Compliance
- Complete digital job reports, timesheets, and warranty documentation
- Record labour, parts usage, and maintain van stock accuracy
- Follow HSE procedures and complete site risk assessments
Skills & Experience
Essential
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Plant, Mechanical, Agricultural, or Heavy Vehicle Engineering
- Experience working on construction plant or heavy equipment
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Full UK driving licence
- Ability to work independently in field-based environments
Desirable
- Manufacturer training or technical accreditation
- Knowledge of LOLER and PUWER regulations
- IPAF, PASMA, or electrical system experience
