This is a full-time, on-site role located in Central London, United Kingdom. The Senior Biomedical Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and improving the functionality of medical devices, performing technical assessments, conducting Preventive Maintenance (PM), and ensuring compliance with healthcare standards. Additionally, this role involves supporting clinical teams, troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, overseeing medical equipment audits, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on a wide range of medical equipment.
  • Initiate and manage complaint-handling processes in line with company procedures.
  • Accurately document service activities, asset updates, and maintenance records to support compliance and performance tracking.
  • Manage and maintain individual spare parts inventory.
  • Ensure that any workshop facilities (where applicable) meet company standards.
  • Comply with all KHS policies, ISO9001 quality standards, and ISO 14001 environmental health and safety requirements.
  • Ensure all test equipment used for calibration, maintenance, and diagnostics is regularly checked and calibrated in accordance with regulatory and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Lead and mentor junior biomedical engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance and support.
  • Oversee complex troubleshooting and high-risk equipment repairs, ensuring minimal downtime and patient safety.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance strategies and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in capital equipment planning, procurement, and commissioning processes.
  • Conduct risk assessments and contribute to clinical governance and safety audits.
  • Support training programs for clinical staff on the safe and effective use of medical equipment.

Minimum of 3 years’ experience (excluding study time) in a hospital workshop (or minimum of 2 years’ experience in a hospital workshop or field service environment and a degree in Biomedical Engineering). Proficient in using PCs and standard office software. Experience with asset management systems and data-driven maintenance planning. Strong understanding of risk management, clinical governance, and equipment lifecycle planning. OEM trained to maintain Anaesthesia machines. Equivalent to NHS band 5/6, depending on experience.
