We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established manufacturing business based in Consett and are looking for an experienced Sewing Machinist / Shop Floor Operator to join their production team. This is a hands-on role supporting the manufacture of specialist test fabrics and ensuring customer orders are completed accurately, efficiently, and to a high standard. The role combines sewing machine operation with wider shop floor production tasks.
ABOUT THE JOB
- Operating flat sewing machines and overlockers to sew fabric strips
- Following customer test sheets and work instructions accurately and consistently
- Recording production information on check sheets
- Reporting any non-conformances or quality issues
- Carrying out basic sewing machine maintenance and troubleshooting minor faults
- Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe working area
- Meeting daily production targets while maintaining quality and accuracy
- Working closely with the wider production team to resolve sewing-related issues
- Adhering to all health and safety standards and company procedures
- Supporting the wider production area when not sewing, including applying products to fabrics by hand and labelling fabric swatches
WHAT WE NEED
- Proven experience operating flat sewing machines and overlockers
- Background in a manufacturing, textile, or tailoring environment
- Basic sewing machine maintenance knowledge
- Ability to follow work instructions accurately and without deviation
- High attention to detail
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Desirable: Experience using a cover stitch sewing machine
