We are seeking an experienced Senior Conveyancing Solicitor to join and help shape our Colchester office. This is a key strategic role for a senior practitioner who enjoys handling a broad range of residential property matters while also mentoring the next generation and contributing to the continued evolution of a modern conveyancing practice.

You will be supported by a dedicated Trainee Solicitor and Solicitor Apprentice, alongside centralised administrative, quotes, and post-completion teams, allowing you to focus on fee earning, supervision, quality, and development rather than routine process work. You will work closely with the Managing Partner and other senior colleagues to help reshape and strengthen the conveyancing department in line with technology, process improvement, and scale, making this an excellent role for someone who enjoys building as well as delivering.

Location: Colchester
Employment type: Full Time
Date added: Apr, 10, 2026
The Role:
  • Managing a mixed residential conveyancing caseload, from simple freehold matters through to complex leasehold, new build, and technical transactions
  • Providing technical supervision and mentoring to a Trainee Solicitor and Solicitor Apprentice
  • Acting as a senior point of reference for complex matters, title issues, and risk decisions
  • Working collaboratively with the central quotes team, post-completion department, and administrative support functions
  • Contributing to process improvement, consistency, and best practice across the conveyancing department
  • Supporting training, file reviews, and development of junior colleagues
  • Working with the Managing Partner and other senior colleagues on:
  • Department structure and workflow
  • Use of technology and automation
  • Quality, risk management, and client experience
Support Structure:

This role is deliberately structured to allow senior solicitors to focus on legal work and leadership, not administration:

  • Trainee Solicitor and Solicitor Apprentice assigned to the role
  • Centralised Quotes Department handling inbound pricing and onboarding
  • Dedicated Post-Completion Team
  • Central administrative support
  • Established systems and legal technology platform
About You:
  • Qualified Solicitor (SRA regulated) with significant experience in residential conveyancing
  • Comfortable handling both straightforward and complex transactions
  • Confident supervising and developing junior lawyers
  • Interested in legal tech, efficiency, and modern ways of working
  • Commercially minded, with an interest in contributing to departmental growth and improvement
  • Collaborative, pragmatic, and quality focused
  • Prior experience managing or helping shape a conveyancing team or department would be an advantage, but is not essential.
Why Join Us:
  • Strong support model
  • Opportunity to help shape the future direction of a growing conveyancing department
  • Forward‑thinking firm actively investing in technology, systems, and people
  • Friendly, professional working environment
How to apply:

To apply, please submit your CV together with a short covering statement outlining your relevant conveyancing experience and why this role would suit you to james.kew@kewlaw.co.uk. All applications will be treated in strict confidence.
