The Nursing Accreditation and Quality Improvement Manager plays a vital role in maintaining excellent clinical standards and monitoring the quality of patient care, safety, and experience within the organisation. This role involves coordinating and delivering the trust-wide ward accreditation programme, including developing timelines, creating communication plans, allocating resources, preparing reports, and monitoring progress to achieve accreditation goals focused on patient safety and quality.

The postholder will support the Nursing Quality Improvement and Accreditation Lead in delivering trust-wide nursing ward accreditation and quality improvement projects aimed at achieving operational excellence, culture change, improved patient outcomes, and enhanced safety and patient experience. He/she will co-drive initiatives to promote excellence in care, continually improving clinical standards and organisational KPIs. Effective decision-making, strong communication skills, and the ability to challenge, work independently, and collaborate within a team are essential for success in this role.

Main duties of the job:

  • Support the Nursing Quality Improvement and Accreditation lead nurse with the delivery of trust-wide nursing accreditation and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Plan and coordinate assessment and accreditation reviews of all nursing/midwifery clinical areas, focusing on professional standards, safety, and quality in line with national and local trust standards.
  • Conduct audits and observations of performance against nursing KPIs, identifying areas of good practice and those requiring intervention.
  • Ensure collaborative working with stakeholders to meet Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulatory frameworks.
  • Implement and manage nursing and quality productive programmes that support improvement strategies.
  • Participate in setting and reviewing standards for practice and evaluating outcomes.
  • Support and lead on promoting clinical engagement in assessment and accreditation.
  • Work clinically alongside registered and non-registered staff, promoting evidence-based practice.
  • Provide effective input into ensuring NMC standards are implemented and embedded in nursing and midwifery practice.

Person specification:

  • 1st Level live NMC (RG) RN(C) OR RN(MH) depending on specialty.
  • At least 5 years of clinical experience & at least 2 years of management experience.
  • Teaching/assessing/coaching qualification.
  • Educated to degree level.
  • Level 7 Leadership/change management/Quality improvement.
  • Quality improvement & change management.
  • Leadership & team management - Experience of leading a team.
  • Appropriate experience as a Senior Nurse (Band 7 or above) with team-leading experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of Assessment and Accreditation methodology and Quality improvement.
  • Computer literacy and presentation skills.
  • Ability to write reports and present findings to various audiences.
  • Proven ability to lead meetings and facilitate engagement.
  • Effective communication skills to represent the trust within the community.
