We are delighted to have an exciting opportunity for a Purchasing Officer to join our client on a permanent basis. This is an 'in person' role located in Hartlepool. Our client seeks a highly organised and commercially minded Purchasing Officer to join the Commercial team. Hours of work are Monday-Friday 08:00am - 16:30pm.
Role Overview
This role involves sourcing, negotiating, and procuring raw materials, chemicals, equipment, and services to support our operations. You will play a key role in ensuring cost efficiency, maintaining supplier performance, and supporting uninterrupted production while adhering to quality, safety, and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure cost effective procurement of purchasing requirements across the business.
- Sourcing of raw materials and consumables including identification and approval of suppliers including carrying out audits.
- Maintaining purchasing procedures and ensuring these are complied with.
- Negotiating purchase contracts to ensure pricing, leadtime and terms are optimal.
- Liaising with Commercial team and Production to ensure materials are scheduled against orders.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with production teams to avoid shortages or overstocking.
- Placing purchase orders as required to support all departments.
- Liaising with suppliers and monitoring supplier performance.
- Accountable for ensuring that Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental Standards are applied in all production plant areas in accordance with Exwold policies, guidelines and procedures.
Skills Required
- Educated to A-level standard or equivalent vocational qualification levels with GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
- Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) Level 3 or above (or equivalent).
- Previous experience in a purchasing, procurement, or a supply chain role.
- Understanding of supplier management and contract negotiation.
- Experience within manufacturing, chemical, or industrial environments (desirable).
- Familiarity with ERP systems is highly advantageous (e.g. Navision or similar).
- Knowledge of inventory control and supply chain processes would be beneficial.
