We have an excellent opportunity for a Maintenance Operative to join a well-established manufacturing company based in Peterlee. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career within engineering and maintenance. The role would suit someone with experience working in a manufacturing environment, or someone who has recently completed an engineering course and is looking to develop their skills.

Working alongside an experienced maintenance team, you will support the day-to-day upkeep of production machinery by carrying out routine checks, preparing equipment and materials for maintenance tasks, and ensuring technicians have everything they need to complete planned work. Full training will be provided, with genuine opportunities to progress into a Maintenance Technician role.

The Role

Following an initial training period on days, you will move onto a permanent Monday to Friday back shift, working as part of the maintenance team. Your duties will include:

  • Supporting the maintenance team with planned maintenance activities
  • Preparing parts, tools and materials ready for maintenance tasks
  • Carrying out routine visual checks on machinery
  • Checking machine components including knives, motors and other mechanical parts
  • Carrying out basic lubrication checks and topping up oils and greases where required
  • Monitoring stock levels of maintenance consumables and spare parts
  • Assisting Maintenance Technicians with planned maintenance work
  • Cleaning and maintaining machinery and equipment
  • Identifying and reporting any defects or potential issues
  • Ensuring all work is carried out safely and in line with company procedures

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working within a manufacturing, production or engineering environment
  • Good mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn
  • Reliable with a positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Ability to work the required shift pattern
  • Own transport or the ability to travel to site for the required shift times

Desirable Experience

  • Engineering qualification (Level 1 or above)
  • Experience carrying out basic mechanical checks
  • Previous machine operating or maintenance experience
  • Recently completed an engineering or mechanical course
