Our civil liberties department specialises in challenging abuses of power and representing individuals whose rights may have been breached, including police misconduct and related civil actions.

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Solicitor to join our Actions Against the Police team. The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload of civil actions involving police conduct, representing clients from case inception through to resolution. You will work collaboratively with experienced colleagues and contribute to meaningful claims that hold institutions accountable and secure justice for vulnerable individuals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage own caseload of civil claims arising from alleged police misconduct and human rights breaches.
  • Provide clear and empathetic legal advice to clients who have experienced infringements of their civil liberties.
  • Draft and issue letters of claim, witness statements and court pleadings.
  • Obtain, review, and interpret evidence (including expert reports) to build strong legal cases.
  • Liaise with clients, witnesses, counsel, expert witnesses and defendants throughout case progression.
  • Represent clients at negotiations, hearings and court proceedings where required.
  • Maintain excellent client care and communication standards throughout the legal process.

  • Qualified Solicitor with current practising certificate.
  • Experience in civil litigation, ideally involving actions against police, public bodies or human rights related matters.
  • Strong legal drafting, analytical and research skills.
