About the Role: We are recruiting for an experienced and proactive HSE Manager, based at our manufacturing site in Bury and providing cover to our Rochdale site, to become a lead member within the UK HSE team. The UK sites include Upper Tier COMAH (Bury site) and lower tier sites and are certified to ISO9001, 14001 and 45001. In addition to site-based activities, the UK HSE team supports our field-based colleagues and engages with the wider Kersia group. As part of our HSE team, the successful candidate will have responsibility for proactively promoting safety, quality, environmental and sustainability standards and assurance of compliance with regulatory and other relevant requirements.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide safety advice and support the organisation to meet statutory, regulatory, and other requirements.
- Evaluate compliance with the legislation, policies and best practice, by ensuring that the relevant sections of the legal register are kept up to date.
- Compile and report safety and environmental performance data, objectives and PSPIs.
- Collaborate with departmental managers to promote HSE in daily operations.
- Take an active role within the UK SHEQ team to develop, implement and maintain the Integrated Management system, including: the continuous development and implementation of the Process Safety Management System (COMAH); safety, legal and other UK or international standards (ISO 9001, 45001 and 14001); maintaining the site’s safety report; managing the incident reporting, action and non-conformity system (SHEQ App); leading internal and supplier audits.
- Member of the onsite emergency response team including out-of-hours cover.
- Represent the company in discussions, meetings, and audits with the HSE, BSI, EA, United Utilities, etc.
- Attend and chair regular internal management, Safety, COMAH, and any other ad hoc meetings when required.
- Plan and carry out investigations, including site visits where necessary.
- Engage with colleagues, provide safety training, and campaigns.
Skills and Attributes/ Experience and Qualifications:
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.
- L6 Diploma in OHS (desirable).
- Member of IOSH.
- Ability to be flexible with working hours.
- Environmental qualification or equivalent (desirable).
- Relevant experience in COMAH and chemical manufacturing or similar environment.
- Full driving license and willing to travel on occasion to other sites.
- Experience of managing all aspects of health and safety.
- IT literate with a good understanding of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to plan for and manage multiple priorities.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work both independently and as part of a wider HSE team.
