About the role
We are currently recruiting for a full time, permanent HSE Manager at our manufacturing facility based in Portbury, Bristol. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a deep knowledge of HSE best practices and legislation within the UK in order to work collaboratively with the onsite team and wider business to continue the implementation of a behaviour based safety culture, aligning to our 'Safety First, Quality Always' ethos. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate previous experience in a similar role, ideally in a managerial capacity. Although this position does not currently have any direct reports initially there are plans to recruit an HSE advisor and there will lots of opportunity for the person coming into the post to make an impact and put their 'own stamp' on people and processes.
Key responsibilities
- Supports Factory Management teams as the primary lead and coordinator for Health, Safety & Environmental activities and processes on the site, advising management teams on legal requirements, industry best practice, and prevailing group standards.
- Works in conjunction with site management team and regional HSE lead to drive the Safety agenda incorporating training, accident investigation, culture and staff involvement, administration, insurance compliance, setting and improving standards etc, and in accordance with wider employee engagement programmes.
- Prepares and delivers induction and H&S skills/awareness trainings.
- Drives culture change / reinforcement of good safety cultures - creates the forums and opportunities to involve and communicate.
- Creates/develops standards/performance frameworks for performance assessment and benchmarking (e.g. ISO ISO14001).
- Coordinates the generation and routine maintenance/review of risk assessment and safe systems of work processes.
- Coordinate accident investigation processes, recording and reporting injuries as required by the company and legal requirements.
- Designates and carries out routine Site Health, Safety & Environmental audits to comply with the local site and wider regional requirements.
- Chairs the co-ordination of the activities of the site HSE Committee(s).
- Review, update and maintain Site Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems taking account of industry best practice and any prevailing Kerry Group standards (Human Element/Hazardous Processes).
- Coordinate & support required Occupational Health Programmes, supporting and advising management/HR on prevailing Health & Safety concerns and job-related impacts.
- Drive continuous improvement and target delivery across all key OHS and sustainability metrics including total recordable incidents, energy, carbon, waste, water and compliance.
- Represent the site/Company at local, regional, or national H&S forums, exhibitions & conferences to obtain and improve safety awareness in the workplace building up appropriate and effective networks both internally and externally.
- Responsible for all activities associated with the co-ordination of the Environmental Management System for the site in line with ISO 140012018 Kerry H&S Policies & Codes of Practices.
- Responsible for all activities associated with maintaining the IPPC license for the site.
- Supports the site management teams by identifying, leading the actions, and reviewing environmental objectives, targets and programmes to demonstrate continual improvement, carrying out environmental compliance audits and maintaining records to demonstrate compliance with environmental legislation and other requirements.
Qualifications, skills and experience
- University Degree would be an advantage.
- Minimum NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Good knowledge with UK H&S & Environmental Legislation.
- Well-developed communication skills able to present written and verbal reports that are understood by the target audience. Can communicate with both internal and external contacts and stakeholders at all levels.
- Health & Safety & Environment experience at a supervisory level in a medium sized/multi-site manufacturing or service company.
- Food industry experience would be an advantage.
