We are currently recruiting for a full‑time, permanent HSE Manager at our manufacturing facility based in Portbury, Bristol. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a deep knowledge of HSE best practices and legislation within the UK and work collaboratively with the onsite team and wider business to continue the implementation of a behaviour‑based safety culture, aligning to our "Safety First, Quality Always" ethos. Although this position does not currently have any direct reports, there are plans to recruit an HSE advisor, giving the successful candidate an opportunity to make a lasting impact.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate Health, Safety & Environmental activities on the site, advising management teams on legal requirements, industry best practice, and prevailing group standards.
- Work with site and regional HSE leaders to drive the safety agenda, incorporating training, accident investigation, culture and staff involvement, administration, insurance compliance, and standard improvement.
- Prepare and deliver induction and H&S skills/awareness training.
- Drive culture change by creating forums and opportunities for involvement and communication.
- Develop standards and performance frameworks for assessment and benchmarking (e.g., ISO 14001).
- Coordinate the generation and routine maintenance of risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Lead accident investigation processes and record injuries as required by company and legal requirements.
- Conduct routine site health, safety, and environmental audits to ensure compliance with local and regional requirements.
- Serve as chair for the site HSE Committee(s).
- Review, update, and maintain the site Health, Safety and Environmental Management System, incorporating industry best practice and Kerry Group standards.
- Support occupational health programmes and advise management/HR on health & safety concerns and job‑related impacts.
- Drive continuous improvement and target delivery across key OHS and sustainability metrics, including incidents, energy, carbon, waste, water, and compliance.
- Represent the site at local, regional, or national H&S forums, exhibitions, and conferences, building effective internal and external networks.
- Coordinate the Environmental Management System per ISO 14001 and Kerry H&S policies and codes of practice.
- Maintain the IPPC licence for the site.
- Identify, lead, and review environmental objectives, targets, and programmes, demonstrating continual improvement and compliance with legislation.
Qualifications
- University degree an advantage.
- Minimum NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Strong knowledge of UK H&S & Environmental legislation.
- Well‑developed communication skills, able to present written and verbal reports to varied audiences.
- Health, Safety & Environment experience at a supervisory level in a medium‑sized or multi‑site manufacturing or service company.
- Food industry experience an advantage.
