We at JKR are excited to be supporting an emerging precision engineering company, in recruiting for a Quality Engineer! Reporting to the Managing Director the Quality Engineer will have the remit and autonomy to implement such measures that are necessary to help ensure customer satisfaction relating to product quality and process compliance.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • The role will be focused initially on manufacturing quality; however, there may be scope for growth and development in the future which may extend to include management of the factory QMS.
  • This is a hands‑on role, not purely a reporting function. The Quality Engineer will be expected to assist in any change implementation and drive its execution.
  • Perform timely and accurate ISIR measurements and submissions as required.
  • Collate customer PPAP submissions when required.
  • Create and implement internal quality alerts as required. Ensure known/recent issues are communicated – ideally with visual reminders.
  • Spot audit/inspection based on data/risk. Follow up on past issues to ensure any previous corrective action has been successfully embedded, process changes have been instructed and implemented.
  • Help drive a culture of quality excellence and right first time.
  • Develop and communicate appropriate KPIs.
  • Liaise with key suppliers and communicate measures of their performance.
  • Lead customer driven and internal 8D investigations, determine root cause, preventive and corrective actions. Communicate outcomes using specific customer required documentation and protocol.
  • Handle any customer rejected components/complaints – logging in system, materials disposition through to corrective/preventive action. This may include entering data in customer specific procurement portals.
  • Complete customer requested compliance data requests.
  • Maintain detailed and auditable records.

Ideal Candidate

  • Must be able to competently interpret 2D mechanical engineering drawings.
  • Must be proficient in standard MS Office suite tools handling basic data manipulation/interpreting and writing reports.
  • Must be comfortable with occasional customer‑facing duties (visits and report feedback sessions as required).
  • Must possess basic familiarity with ISO 9001 or a higher management system.
  • Ideally has worked in a fast‑paced mechanical engineering / metal fabrication subcontract environment (desirable).
  • Ideally possesses experience of using measurement equipment such as CMM and basic hand measurement and gauging devices (desirable).
  • BTEC or higher in Engineering or Manufacturing. Possible time served apprenticeship (desirable).
  • IOSH Managing Safely will be an advantage.
