This is a full-time and permanent position based in Singapore. We are recruiting for an experienced Commodities Desk Quant to support and optimise its growing global physical commodities trading portfolio. Working directly alongside traders, originators and commercial teams, this role combines quantitative modelling, optimisation and real-time trading support across physical and financial markets. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of developing production-grade quantitative tools and models that influence commercial decision making, portfolio optimisation and trading performance. This is a front-office role requiring close interaction with traders and direct involvement in day-to-day commercial activities within a live trading environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain and enhance quantitative models, pricing frameworks and optimisation tools supporting physical and derivative trading activities.
- Build and own proprietary quantitative libraries, analytics platforms and decision-support tools used by front-office trading teams.
- Support traders in evaluating commercial opportunities, portfolio optionality, logistics decisions and risk-reward trade-offs in real time.
- Design and implement optimisation models covering areas such as cargo allocation, storage, blending, transportation, shipping and portfolio management.
- Partner closely with traders, originators and commercial stakeholders to identify and execute value-generating opportunities.
- Translate trading requirements into scalable quantitative solutions and production-ready tools.
- Perform scenario analysis, valuation, exposure analysis and optimisation studies supporting commercial decisions.
- Improve modelling infrastructure, automation and quantitative capabilities across the trading platform.
- Contribute to the continued evolution of the firm's quantitative, optimisation and trading capabilities.
Requirements
- Advanced degree preferred in Mathematics, Statistics, Financial Engineering, Quantitative Finance, Econometrics, Data Science or another highly quantitative discipline.
- Proven experience supporting a live front-office trading desk within a physical commodities trading environment.
- Strong exposure to physical trading activities across: crude oil and petroleum products; and/or natural gas and LNG.
- Demonstrated experience building and deploying quantitative models, optimisation engines, pricing tools, analytical frameworks and proprietary libraries used by commercial or trading teams.
- Strong understanding of physical commodity value chains, logistics, transportation, storage, inventory management and portfolio optionality.
- Experience contributing directly to trading, optimisation or commercial decisions that impact portfolio performance and profitability.
- Strong programming capability with experience developing production-quality quantitative solutions.
- Ability to engage credibly with traders and commercial stakeholders on both quantitative and commercial topics.
- Experience operating in entrepreneurial, build-out or growth-stage trading environments is advantageous.
