We are currently recruiting for a Hygiene Operative (Nights) to join our New World Foods site (part of Kepak Group) in York. The Hygiene Operative is responsible for maintaining the highest hygiene and cleanliness standards across all production areas. The role ensures that equipment, machinery and the working environment are effectively cleaned, sanitised and prepared to enable safe, compliant food production. The Hygiene Operative plays a critical role in protecting food safety, product quality and site compliance.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Reporting to the Hygiene Manager

SHIFTS: Permanent Night Shift (10pm – 6am)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain high hygiene standards across production areas
  • Clean production equipment and machinery
  • Dismantle and reassemble equipment for thorough cleaning
  • Complete scheduled cleaning and sanitation tasks
  • Carry out deep cleaning activities
  • Follow hygiene, GMP and food safety procedures
  • Use cleaning equipment and chemicals safely
  • Wear and comply with PPE requirements
  • Conduct quality checks to ensure cleaning standards are met
  • Maintain clean, organised and safe work areas
  • Report hygiene, safety or maintenance issues promptly
  • Support continuous improvement of hygiene standards

Experience: Experience in a food manufacturing or similar hygiene-critical environment.

Skills: Basic understanding of Food Safety, COSHH and Health & Safety requirements. Strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards. Ability to follow instructions, procedures and hygiene schedules accurately. Able to carry out cleaning tasks, including manual dismantling and use of cleaning equipment. Willingness to learn, develop and take feedback positively. Good communication skills and ability to escalate issues appropriately.
