Kepak St. Merryn in Bodmin is a beef processing facility. We offer beef products ranging from retail ready cuts for butchers’ counters to branded packaged meat, all as part of our service; raised on open pastures, sourced from local farmers and hand-selected by our master butchers, we produce beef products with integrity and unmatched quality assurance.
Purpose of the role: As a Skilled Maintenance Engineer, you will play a vital role in providing effective maintenance support to our Production team, ensuring the equipment, machinery, and tools used in our factory are always running smoothly, maintaining seamless production and enhancing efficiency.
We are looking for someone with suitable qualifications and experience working in a manufacturing environment, preferably with meat or food production experience. Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, PLC control, refrigeration, and PTW systems is desirable.
You will be working on a 4 on/4 off shift pattern from 5.00am to 5.00pm - 36 hours or 48 hours per week averaging out at 42 per week, with a competitive salary.
Main Responsibilities:
- Undertake Electrical and Mechanical routine checking of equipment, quality inspections and troubleshooting on the production lines and process, working to minimise down time.
- Troubleshooting using PLC Logic.
- Electro-mechanical repairs to high-speed, PLC-controlled plant, handling and packaging equipment, also pneumatic and hydraulic control systems.
- Effective communication with productions teams, providing timely updates on breakdowns/down time.
- Technical support for the plant facilities and services, including compressed air, refrigeration, and steam.
- Input to and carry out Preventive & Predictive Maintenance Routines.
- Support Production Team in achieving targets.
- Closely monitor line and machine performance, identifying and investigating faults.
- Intervene online as soon as any deterioration in performance occurs.
- Be observant and work off your own initiative when a fault is detected and take remedial action based on your best judgement on whether to effect immediate repair or not.
- Analyse the efficiency of current procedures and suggest improvements.
- Work with equipment suppliers on new equipment, installations, and modifications.
- Maintain cleanliness in any areas in which you are working, including any transit areas to and from the workshop, including the workshop and stores.
- Co-operate and participate fully in training and development in cross-skilling and other job-related competencies.
- Update the maintenance management system (CMMS), records of all changes, stores transactions made, and work carried out.
- Actively participate in toolbox talks and undertake permit to work and/or risk assessments.
- Be available to support and participate in rotating shift cover roster.
- Ensure all systems comply with the relevant health and safety legislation, as well as relevant site food hygiene and safety requirements.
Requirements:
- NVQ Level 3 Mechanical and/or Electrical Qualification essential.
- BS7671 18th Edition - 17th is acceptable with ongoing commitment to 18th.
- Experience working in meat/food production environment preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical, electrical, PLC control, refrigeration and PTW systems desirable.
- Strong diagnostic/root cause analysis skills essential.
- Proactive and “can-do” attitude essential.
- Adaptable to change and willingness to upskill and learn new disciplines as required.
- Sound understanding of integrity and compliance to relevant legislation and company processes/procedures.
- Commitment to good practice.
- Fluent English, communicates well in written and oral form with multi-nationals on all levels.
- Ability to multitask and work under own initiative to deliver to deadlines.
- Relationship builder with influencing skills.
