We are looking for passionate and hands‑on Mechanical Maintenance Fitters to support and strengthen team capacity and contribute to the effective delivery of key priorities.

The successful Mechanical Maintenance Fitter(s) will carry out routine maintenance activities on the iconic M5000 trams, and your contribution will play a vital role in keeping one of the UK's most renowned transport systems running smoothly.

This is a temporary assignment for a period of five months.

Responsibilities

  • Hands‑on Maintenance – Care for tram assets by following detailed maintenance instructions.
  • Carry out routine inspection and repairs on our trams, including interior and exterior inspections, gearbox oil sampling, cleaning and inspections of brake resistors, pantographs, passenger doors and more.
  • Take part in safety briefings and workshops, helping to create a culture where everyone looks out for each other.
  • Carry out tasks to the highest standards, following our maintenance guidelines to ensure the fleet stays reliable and ready.
  • Keep accurate, up‑to‑date asset management records – both paper and digital – ensuring easy access.
  • Only take on tasks you are trained and confident to complete, maintaining a safe and professional working environment.

Qualifications

  • Educated to NVQ Level 3 in an engineering discipline / Advanced modern apprenticeship.
  • Knowledge of maintenance activities within a large multi‑disciplined team.
  • Experience in a large maintenance environment with a focus on safety and completing maintenance activities to plan.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
  • Work as part of a highly motivated team to deliver maintenance requirements on time.
  • Good knowledge of IT systems including the Microsoft applications.
