Join our team at KeolisAmey Metrolink (KAM), the largest light rail network in the UK! Due to internal changes, we are now looking to appoint a Tram Maintenance Team Leader at our Trafford Depot. In this hands-on leadership role, you’ll guide a skilled maintenance team, driving high-quality work, smart prioritisation and operational excellence. Working closely with the Tram Maintenance Manager, you’ll ensure our fleet remains safe, reliable and future-ready, while championing continuous improvement and shaping the next evolution of our maintenance operations. As part of a 24/7 operation, you’ll work a rotating shift pattern covering days, nights, weekends and public holidays - keeping the network moving around the clock.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Assist the Tram Maintenance Manager with maintenance prioritisation, repairs and modification works through effective teamwork, plant and materials.
  • Provide leadership to ensure trams are correctly maintained and serviced in line with the approved maintenance regime.
  • Ensure planned, corrective and reactive maintenance work orders are completed accurately, with all asset management records kept up to date.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, regulations, standards and safety requirements, demonstrating zero-harm principles in all working practices.
  • Motivate, lead and manage the team to achieve departmental and business performance targets, ensuring staff competence and effective task allocation.
  • Act as the first line of technical support for the Network Management Centre during tram failures or recovery situations.
  • Engage with key internal and external stakeholders, including TfGM, OEMs and suppliers, ensuring clear communication and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Authorise and allocate resources required for the maintenance and delivery of tram assets, ensuring tooling, equipment, materials and documentation are correct and fit for purpose.

What you’ll bring:

  • Demonstrates the ability to motivate and support others, with emerging experience in leading or coordinating people within a maintenance, support, project or production environment.
  • NVQ Level 3 in an engineering discipline is essential, with strong knowledge of electrical/electronic, mechanical and hydraulic maintenance systems.
  • Extensive maintenance experience with the ability to fault-find, carry out diagnostic investigations and perform root cause analysis.
  • Strong understanding of safety, risk management and continuous improvement techniques within a maintenance environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders, supported by strong verbal and written communications and IT skills.
