Role Overview: The Head of Security & Revenue Protection is responsible for leading the strategic and operational delivery of security measures and revenue protection across the rail network. The role ensures compliance with industry regulations, enhances passenger and staff safety, mitigates fare evasion, and supports overall business revenue performance. The role is also responsible for stakeholder management and leading liaison with appropriate agencies (including British Transport Police, NHS, Borough Councils, Department for Transport (DfT), Transport for London (TfL) and other organisations on behalf of KAD in relation to security, crisis management, emergency response and projects. It is also accountable for ensuring best practice through sharing of information with relevant agencies and organisations, along with security of the DLR network, its staff, contractors and passengers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Security Management
- Deliver the Annual Security, workplace violence reduction and safeguarding plans for KAD.
- Manage our Network Security and Depot Security Contractors with a third party.
- Develop and implement security strategies to safeguard passengers, employees, and assets across the network.
- Lead security risk assessments and ensure compliance with national rail security regulations.
- Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, British Transport Police (BTP), and industry bodies to strengthen security measures.
- Oversee incident management and response planning, ensuring effective emergency procedures.
- Promote a culture of security awareness among staff and passengers through training and engagement initiatives.
- Revenue Protection
- Manage our Revenue Protection contract with the external supplier.
- Develop and execute strategies to reduce fare evasion and revenue leakage across the network.
- Oversee the deployment of revenue protection officers and initiatives, ensuring effective ticket checks and enforcement operations.
- Implement technology-driven solutions to enhance fare compliance and fraud detection.
- Work collaboratively with customer service and commercial teams to improve passenger education on fare compliance.
- Monitor and analyse revenue protection performance, implementing data-driven improvements.
- Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead and develop a high-performing security and revenue protection team.
- Act as the primary liaison with external stakeholders, including BTP, local authorities, and industry regulators.
- Represent the company at industry forums, ensuring alignment with best practices and legislative requirements.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement in security and revenue protection policies and procedures.
- Team Leadership and Line Management
- Lead, manage, and develop your team members, ensuring they are equipped with the tools and support to effectively perform in their role, ensuring alignment with our goals and values.
- Set clear objectives, monitor performance, and provide regular feedback to team members. Identifying and addressing development needs through coaching, mentoring, and training opportunities.
- Promote and set an example of positive, inclusive, and supportive work environment that embraces collaboration, EDI and prioritises colleague wellbeing.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Educated to degree level.
- Extensive Knowledge of strategies and tactics to protect key operational facilities and operations staff from security threats.
- Certified Security Management Professional (CSMP) or has minimum of 3 yearsβ experience to be able to undertake the course with ISMI.
- Excellent use of English and presentation skills.
- Proven experience of planning and managing large scale or high profile security operations.
- Proven experience in line management or managing contracted staff.
- Experience in managing projects and identifying continuous improvement possibilities.
- Confident and able to communicate with internal and external stakeholders on all levels.
- To be able to prioritise and give recommendations within the context of a business environment.
- Confident, persuasive and professional approach.
- The ability to maintain confidentiality and display tact, diplomacy and discretion at all times.
- Flexibility to meet requirements of shift workers.
- Proven experience of managing budgets.
Additional Information:
- Occasional travel across the DLR network or offices will be required.
- Flexibility in work hours, particularly to support teams during peak operational periods.
- We are a people focussed team and therefore this is a people facing role. Hybrid working available, but there is an expectation of at least 3 days a week on site.
