The Role

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Vehicle & Project Rolling Stock Engineer to take a leading role in supporting fleet performance, technical assurance, and engineering project delivery. This is a key engineering position focused on Engineering Vehicles (EV) and project activity, combining hands-on technical expertise with project, supplier, and compliance management. You will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of engineering vehicles, while also contributing to wider rolling stock projects and continuous improvement initiatives across the DLR fleet.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead technical assurance and compliance activities for Engineering Vehicles and project-related rolling stock
  • Deliver engineering changes through the DLR Change Assurance Process (CAP), acting as a Designated Competent Person
  • Manage engineering projects and suppliers, including site visits across the UK and Europe
  • Drive reliability and availability improvements using predictive and preventative maintenance approaches
  • Develop and maintain the Annual Asset Maintenance Plan (AAMP) in line with ISO55001
  • Conduct condition assessments, audits, and produce high-quality technical reports
  • Provide technical leadership across electrical, mechanical, control, and pneumatic systems
  • Support and manage engineering documentation, standards, and change control
  • Lead and contribute to innovation initiatives, including developing in-house capabilities
  • Coach and support the development of colleagues and future engineering capability

What You’ll Need

  • Strong experience in a rolling stock engineering environment
  • Knowledge of Engineering Vehicles and associated systems
  • Understanding of rail safety and compliance frameworks, including ROGS and ORR requirements
  • Experience in technical assurance, safety compliance, and engineering change
  • Strong technical knowledge across rolling stock systems (electrical, mechanical, control, pneumatic)
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to produce high-quality technical documentation
  • Good IT skills, including engineering systems and Microsoft Office
  • Chartered Engineer (C.Eng) or Incorporated Engineer (I.Eng), or working towards
  • Experience managing suppliers and contracts
  • Experience delivering engineering or rolling stock projects
