About the Role:
Reporting to the Manager – Commercial, Legal, Risk & Compliance, this role provides high-quality commercial, legal, and procurement support across the organisation. The position works closely with internal stakeholders to support contract management, procurement activities, major projects, and commercial risk management, while also providing in-house legal advice within a business-focused, outcomes-driven environment. The role is designed for a legally qualified professional with strong commercial acumen and proven experience operating within an in-house role in O&M, infrastructure, and/or major projects environments. The position supports the effective delivery of major contracts, procurement activities, and governance outcomes across major projects and O&M contexts.
Key Accountabilities:
- Commercial & Contract Management: Lead and/or support the negotiation, administration, and management of upstream and downstream commercial contracts in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders ensuring legal, commercial, and regulatory compliance. Prepare and review commercial correspondence and contractual notices. Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, suppliers, and legal partners. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives relating to contract management systems, templates, and processes.
- Procurement: Support end-to-end procurement activities including preparing, receiving, and evaluating bids, proposals, and tenders; providing recommendations; and managing contract execution. Carry out contract award and supplier onboarding processes in accordance with governance and probity requirements. Provide commercial and legal input to procurement strategies, supplier selection, and contract structures. Assist with supplier relationship management, including performance monitoring and issue resolution. Assist in the development of template procurement documentation including market engagement and probity materials.
- Legal: Provide in-house legal support on commercial and contractual matters. Assist with the drafting, review, and advice on commercial agreements, including infrastructure, operations and maintenance, interface, and professional services related contracts. Coordinate as required with external legal advisors to support dispute resolution, compliance reviews, and complex contractual negotiations. Maintain awareness of relevant legislation and regulations impacting contractual and operational activities.
- Risk, Compliance & Insurance: Support risk identification, compliance frameworks, and insurance matters. Support in the development of compliance frameworks, policies, and reporting obligations to ensure alignment with legal obligations and corporate governance standards. Support the organisation’s insurance requirements, including policy renewals, claims management, and ensuring adequate coverage which aligns with contractual and operational needs. Assist in the development and maintenance of effective processes to ensure supplier and contract performance are compliant, auditable, and well governed.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
- Tertiary qualification in Law.
- Hold an unrestricted legal practicing certificate (or eligibility to obtain an unrestricted legal practising certificate).
- Up to 5 years’ post-admission experience.
- Additional qualifications in business, commerce, or a related discipline are desirable.
Technical & Commercial Expertise:
- Strong commercial acumen and analytical capability.
- Proven experience supporting commercial contracts and procurement activities within O&M, infrastructure, and/or major projects environments.
- Ability to interpret, draft, and advise on complex commercial and legal terms.
- Experience with supporting organisational insurance requirements is desirable.
