We are looking for a Control Room Technician to join our Control Centre team, playing a critical role in the safe and reliable operation of the railway. This is a safety-critical, technical position responsible for controlling the traction power supply, coordinating possessions and isolations, and supporting the response to incidents and system failures. The role operates on a 24/7 shift rota, providing continuous cover across the network. You will report operationally to the Control Centre Duty Manager / Supervisor while being accountable overall to the Technical Interface Manager.

What You’ll Do

  • Control the high-voltage and traction power supply system, including operation of SCADA systems
  • Safely implement and coordinate planned and emergency possessions and isolations
  • Ensure full compliance with electrical safety rules and operational procedures
  • Coordinate and prioritise the activities of First Line Response Technicians (FLRTs) and maintenance contractors
  • Provide technical advice to Control Centre colleagues, operations staff, and train crews
  • Control all works during engineering hours to maximise efficiency and safety
  • Maintain accurate records, permits, and safety documentation
  • Input fault and incident data into relevant systems and produce reports when required
  • Liaise with external parties including Distribution Network Operators (DNOs)
  • Support incident response and escalation, making informed technical decisions under pressure
  • Deputise for the Information Assistant when required

What You’ll Need

Essential / Desirable Experience & Qualifications

  • ONC (or higher) qualification in Electrical / Electronic Engineering (Essential)
  • Demonstrable technical experience in a railway, HV power supply, or similar operational environment (Essential)
  • Electrical ‘Authorised Person’ Certification (Desirable)
  • Ability to use and understand computer systems
  • Strong decision-making skills, particularly in time-critical and safety-critical situations
  • Ability to prioritise actions to maintain safety and operational performance
  • Willingness to maintain Track Awareness/Sentinel certification (to support emergency response)
