We are always open to receiving interest from experienced Catastrophic Injury Lawyers specialising in defending complex injury claims. We welcome applications from driven and detail‐oriented professionals who are skilled at managing high‐value, complex cases and who are passionate about providing exceptional legal services in defendant motor insurance claims.
Successful candidates should be able to work as part of a team working on cases involving traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, amputations, brachial plexus injuries, serious orthopaedic injuries and fatalities. Cases often involve providing detailed analysis of complex liability disputes and/or the indemnity position of various interested parties.
Key Responsibilities- Case Management – Working as part of a small team you will support one of the Lead Lawyers with their high‐value, complex injury defendant caseloads.
- Accountability – Communicating and developing relationships with clients and the claimant's legal team. Maintaining exceptional levels of service by proactive case management.
- Research & Analysis – Conduct thorough legal research and analyse medical records, liability documents, Part 35 reports and witness statements to prepare comprehensive, detailed and technically complex advice on indemnity, liability and quantum issues.
- Court Representation – Be part of a team representing clients in hearings, joint settlement meetings, mediations, arbitrations and trials.
- Development – Contribute to the development of junior team members, delegating appropriately and guiding them in technical ability and achievement of objectives.
- Qualified solicitor or CILEX (equivalent to 3‐4 years PQE).
- Significant experience in handling or assisting large loss or catastrophic injury files. Usually capable of either handling a case load of large loss injury cases with supervision or having assisted at a high level on catastrophic injury cases.
- Defendant experience is preferable; claimant experience at an appropriate level of seniority will also be considered.
- Understanding of case law, litigation practice and process, and Court Practice Rules relevant to high‐value claims; comfortable researching and analysing legal principles to provide comprehensive advice.
- Strong technical knowledge on assessing liability, quantum issues, procedural issues (e.g. contested interim payment applications).
- Excellent organisational and IT skills.
- Good interpersonal skills to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to colleagues, clients and third parties.
