The paralegal will undertake a variety of tasks to support the members of the Legacy Disease Team in achieving client KPIs and SLAs.
Key Responsibilities
- Update Tracker with file allocations, diary records, court dates, directions, applications and orders as well as general activity, ensuring accurate recording of activity to allow progress tracking.
- Draft routine court documents (e.g., AOS, Notice of Change, Court Orders, Witness Summons, precedent-based applications).
- Liaise with courts, counsel, opponents, experts, witnesses, insureds and brokers to progress the case.
- Request and provide updates; request extensions to comply with protocol; handle GP, hospital, OH and personnel mandates; book counsel for hearings and conferences; schedule appointments with experts.
- Follow up on outstanding instructions, documents and other actions to ensure responses are received within required timescales.
- Make payment requests using the appropriate process and chase to ensure payments are received and dispatched within deadlines.
- Diarise and update CRU.
- Undertake additional ad‑hoc duties to support the fee earners and the team, including recovering client outlay, collating outcomes, minor liability and quantum investigations, drafting write‑off forms, requesting final bills, handling billing queries and file closure/transfer activities.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Experience working in a legal environment is desirable.
- Good communication skills and experience negotiating with and influencing third parties to obtain information.
- Experience following a semi‑prescribed programme of work.
- Dealing with calls and enquiries from customers, suppliers and/or the public.
- Gathering and recording information.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise and organise workload.
- IT literate and proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Experience using a claims/case management system.
- GCSE grade A‑C in Maths and English or equivalent.
