Keoghs Public Sector Team is seeking to recruit a Large Loss File Handler to deal with delegated and non-delegated high value multi-track EL/PL claims.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to work with a Lead Lawyer in our Casualty Public Sector Team dealing with a variety of our more complex and high value cases.
In this role you will competently manage a caseload of EL/PL cases on behalf of a number of insurance clients or public sector bodies.
The role also includes the need to engage with senior claims handlers in long-standing insurance clients.
In this role you may also be required to assist the Lead Lawyer in activities which enhance and develop Keoghs’ profile.
The successful candidate will predominantly handle a litigated case of claims up to a value of £250,000 and provide support to a Technical Lead Lawyer and Partner in the team with more complex, high value cases.
The successful candidate would also be a Technical Lead for one or more Public Sector team clients and be involved in internal technical client meetings.
Key Responsibilities
File Handling
- Building relationships with Keoghs clients – including local councils, constabularies, insurers, policy holders and brokers
- Manage a mixed caseload of EL/PL predominantly multi track cases consisting of claims typically valued between £25k - £250k
- Assessing and advising on liability and quantum
- Devising strategies to resolve cases with the best possible outcome, identifying areas to investigate and evidence to collate
- Make full use of the firm’s Case Management System in progressing files from receipt to closure
- Draft pleadings to include Defences and witness evidence
- Attend court in person or by telephone, attend trials, settlement conferences, inquests etc as required
- Achieve targets in terms of chargeable hours, working capital and the collection of client MI
- Working with the wider team to ensure a seamless delivery of services to Keoghs clients
- To ensure compliance with the SRA standards & regulations

- Assisting Lead Lawyer
Working with the Lead Lawyer to manage a caseload of complex injury claims including high value claims included but not limited to:
- Forensic analysis of voluminous quantum evidence
- preparing chronologies
- identifying anomalies and other relevant information across various sources and categories of evidence.
- Attendance at hearings, conferences and inquests
Technical Lead
- Aligned to at least one Casualty client being a point of contact for day to day technical queries for both Keoghs, Client Account Managers, Team Leaders, Councils, Constabularies, Insurers and brokers.
- Technical contact on at least one Casualty client account for all technical and reputational issues
- Lead liaison on client audits for designated Casualty client with support from Client Account Manager
- Prepare for and attend Operational and Performance review meetings with the client to include focus on KPI claims and claims risk related performance, and ultimate ownership of any Claims pack used.
- Participate in the development and growth of the overall relationship through interaction to include:
- face-to-face review meetings – operational and strategic
- Training/case surgeries/workshops
- Socialising
- Be an internal referral point for designated Casualty client queries and provide supervisory reviews
- Be responsible for client litigation handling manuals and regularly update the Team on any changes and developments
