Budget Coaching volunteers work one‑to‑one with clients to help them apply simple money skills and budgeting techniques in a practical way to their own unique situation.

During a structured programme of up to four two‑session appointments over several months, you will work closely with clients to guide, support and encourage them as they journey to greater financial confidence and resilience.

Budget Coaching volunteers should have a good understanding of financial capability and money management, be willing to stay up to date with current personal finance news and support schemes, and maintain stable personal finances. Live experience of financial difficulty is acceptable and can be helpful. Volunteers should be good listeners, empathetic, patient, numerate and able to use IT competently. They should also share Crosslight’s values: passion, compassion, patience, resilience and integrity.

Volunteers benefit from comprehensive induction training, role‑specific and soft‑skill training through Crosslight Learning Academy, ongoing support from the Financial Capability Lead and colleagues, and the personal fulfilment that comes from supporting community members. Engaging with Crosslight’s mission allows volunteers to renew hope and restore dignity for those they assist.

Time Commitment

Approximately 8 hours over a 2‑month period (four 2‑hour sessions per client). Days and times can vary. You may take on more than one client depending on availability. Quarterly Budget Coaching forums and optional training (e.g., Coaching Skills course) are also required.
