Somerset Community College invites applications for a full-time Instructor/Clinical Coordinator - Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program. Because the program operates in a hybrid format and students attend courses at both the Laurel Campus and the Russell Center, the Clinical Coordinator will be expected to travel between locations as needed and to clinical sites.

Job Duties: The Instructor/Clinical Coordinator is responsible for coordinating clinical education, delivering didactic and laboratory instruction, and supporting student success within the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. The successful candidate will provide instruction to students in both theory and practice of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program. Activities include:

  • Planning and carrying out instruction, instructional activities, and preparing learning materials for special studies;
  • Preparing lesson plans, instructional activities and maintaining records and reports on student learning;
  • Participating in professional development activities to improve teaching skills and expertise, student advising, student clinical placement, and other assigned duties.

This position ensures effective clinical partnerships, maintains compliance with accreditation standards, and contributes to continuous program improvement.

  • Coordinate clinical education experiences, including student placements, schedules, and site assignments;
  • Supervise students in clinical settings to ensure safe, ethical, and competent practice;
  • Evaluate student clinical performance and maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation;
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the program and affiliated clinical sites;
  • Maintain and manage Memoranda of Agreement (MOAs) with clinical partners;
  • Ensure clinical sites meet program expectations and accreditation requirements;
  • Deliver lecture and laboratory instruction in assigned DMS courses;
  • Develop, organize, and update course materials to reflect current clinical practice and standards;
  • Assess student learning using a variety of evaluation methods;
  • Provide academic advising, mentoring, and support to students;
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with accreditation standards;
  • Participate in program assessment, curriculum review, and continuous quality improvement initiatives;
  • Contribute to documentation and reporting required for accreditation and institutional effectiveness;
  • Actively participate in college committees, program meetings, and institutional initiatives;
  • Engage in professional development to maintain clinical and instructional competency;
  • Support recruitment, retention, and student success initiatives;
  • Collaborate with faculty, administration, and community partners to enhance program outcomes;
  • Participate in education leadership activities;
  • Participate in internal service activities (serve on college and systemwide committees and participate in meetings);
  • Participate in external service (activities performed in the community);
  • Perform other program duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree from an accredited university or college;
  • Credentialed sonographer in the appropriate specialty area(s): RDMS or ARRT(S) credentialed (Abdomen/Obstetrics Gynecology);
  • Minimum of two years of clinical experience in diagnostic medical sonography;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current sonography practices and standards;
  • Effective communication, organizational, and instructional skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited university or college in a relevant field;
  • Prior teaching or clinical instruction experience;
  • Experience coordinating clinical education or working with student placements.
