Kenton Black Middle East are partnering our client an international PMC who are looking to appoint a Principal Urban Designer for their business within the Middle East.
The position is open to candidates located within the UK or Europe with no previous Middle East Experience required, and who are interested in relocating to the Middle East, the position flexible on location and can either be based in Dubai or Abu Dhabi.
The successful candidate will be currently working directly for a design practice, or a project management consultancy at a senior level, the position will have a hands on approach from project inception, and will involve creative designs that will incorporate the full spectrum of urban design consisting of Digital, Graphic and Parametric, whilst being client facing, you will be able to lead and motivate internal teams to ensure projects are delivered in line with clients requirements, the role will also require an element of business development to further promote the business and identify further revenue generation, in what is one of the leading markets of the world for construction projects and opportunities.
Role duties & responsibilities:
- To review existing plans and analyse urban design issues and identify or make recommendations for change as required.
- Prepare reports on all aspects of urban design, site design, building design, streetscape, signage, landscaping, lighting etc
- Produce and present presentations to clients and internal stakeholders
- Work with internal engineering and planning staff to resolve or overcome design issues.
- Review client/developer/ investor proposals and make comments where required.
- Prepare specific Area Plans for required projects
- Provide advice on elements of urban design at the streetscape and site specific level.
- Sit in on internal project briefs to provide advice and input to senior Stakeholders on urban design factors.
- Prepare Technical Scope of Works for projects carried out by the Urban Design Unit.
- Conduct Business development activities to identify areas of further business and subsequent revenue generation and departmental growth.
Required experience and qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and a Master’s degree in Urban Design, 10-20 years of relevant experience in urban design gained direct form an independent practice or leading consultancy, preferred experience in the designing of cityscapes in industrial cities and estates. International experience advantageous.
- The ideal candidate would be a highly driven and creative urban design professional, with the passion and vision to make difference within the business and Urban Planning Department.
- Must be able to lead and motivate teams and work independently when required.
- Must have excellent graphic and textual skills and be capable of independent report production and graphic presentations.
- Must be capable of developing conceptual urban design plans
- Must have exceptional written and verbal presentation skills.
- Must be highly proficient and skilled within the required IT packages/software and graphic capabilities commonly used by Architects and Urban Designers, of AutoCAD or MicroStation and Photoshop etc
