Freelance Mechanical Engineer
Location: North East (Secure Environment Project)
Rate: 350 - 450 per shift (DOE)
Contract: Freelance / Contract
Start: ASAP - December 2026
We are recruiting for a Freelance Mechanical Engineer to support delivery on a major secure government infrastructure project in the North East. Working as part of the site delivery team, you will take ownership of mechanical engineering coordination and execution across a complex live construction environment, ensuring programme, quality and compliance requirements are achieved. This role would suit someone with a strong building services / MEP background who is comfortable operating on fast-paced contractor-led projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage and coordinate mechanical installation activities on site
- Review and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications and technical submissions
- Oversee subcontractor performance and progress
- Carry out inspections and ensure quality standards are maintained
- Support commissioning, testing and handover activities
- Coordinate with electrical, civils and project delivery teams
- Raise and close technical queries (RFIs) and resolve site issues
- Ensure works are delivered safely and in accordance with programme requirements
- Attend progress and coordination meetings with stakeholders
