The Opportunity

A well-established and highly successful residential groundworks contractor is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team based in Bedfordshire.

With an annual turnover of approximately £50 million, our client has built an excellent reputation for delivering infrastructure and groundworks packages for many of the UK's leading national and regional housebuilders.

Due to continued growth and a substantial pipeline of secured projects, they are looking to strengthen their commercial team with the appointment of an ambitious Quantity Surveyor.

The Role

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for the commercial management of multiple residential groundworks projects from contract award through to final account.

Working closely with Contracts Managers, Site Teams and Clients, you will ensure projects are delivered profitably while maintaining strong commercial relationships throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial management of multiple residential groundworks projects.
  • Preparation and submission of interim applications and valuations.
  • Measurement and valuation of variations.
  • Cost reporting, forecasting and monthly CVRs.
  • Procurement and management of subcontractor packages.
  • Agreement of subcontractor accounts.
  • Preparation of final accounts.
  • Monitoring project costs, budgets and cash flow.
  • Identifying commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Liaising with Clients, Site Teams and Senior Management.
  • Assisting with contract administration and dispute resolution where required.
  • Supporting the Commercial Manager with strategic commercial objectives.
  • Candidate Requirements

The successful candidate will have

  • Previous experience within residential groundworks, civil engineering or infrastructure contracting.
  • Strong understanding of roads & sewers, foundations, drainage and external works.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • Experience producing CVRs, cost reports and final accounts.
  • Strong knowledge of subcontract procurement and account management.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and commercial software.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management.
  • Experience working with NEC and JCT forms of contract.
  • Membership of RICS or working towards chartership (desirable but not essential).
