Temporary Works Coordinator Location: Teesside Salary: £65 - £75 per hour Contract: Freelance Sector: Construction / Infrastructure The Client is looking to appoint an experienced Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) to take responsibility for the coordination, management and safe delivery of temporary works across a major construction project. This is a key role within the project team, working closely with the design team, site management, subcontractors, clients and other stakeholders to ensure temporary works are properly designed, checked, constructed, inspected and maintained throughout the project lifecycle. THE ROLE As Temporary Works Coordinator, you will be responsible for managing the temporary works process from initial design brief through to construction, inspection and eventual removal. Your responsibilities will include: • Coordinating all parties involved in the design and construction of temporary works. • Liaising with the Client and other stakeholders to establish approval, certification and any public interface requirements. • Developing and maintaining the Temporary Works Schedule, ensuring it is regularly reviewed and kept up to date. • Ensuring appropriate temporary works designs are produced in accordance with project requirements. • Reviewing the competence and suitability of Temporary Works Supervisors in conjunction with the project team. • Preparing and reviewing design briefs to ensure they are complete, accurate and suitable before being issued to the Temporary Works Designer. • Ensuring sufficient time is allowed within the construction programme for temporary works design, checking, approval and construction. • Ensuring completed designs are received within the required timescales and comply with the agreed design brief, including identification of residual risks. • Managing design changes and liaising with the Temporary Works Designer where changes are required. • Ensuring appropriate design check and approval documentation is completed. • Ensuring approved temporary works designs are issued to the construction team and relevant stakeholders. • Ensuring construction activities are undertaken only from appropriately approved and issued-for-construction drawings. • Reviewing construction methodologies to ensure they incorporate the requirements of both permanent and temporary works designs, including loading, foundations, stability, structural integrity and hold points. • Checking that materials, plant and equipment are suitable for the temporary works being undertaken. • Inspecting and approving preparations for temporary works structures, including foundations, prior to erection. • Ensuring temporary works are inspected before loading and unloading and that appropriately competent personnel are undertaking inspections. • Establishing and agreeing hold points with the site team where inspection and approval is required before works can progress. • Ensuring temporary works remain adequately maintained, stable and fit for purpose throughout their use. ABOUT YOU The successful candidate will have strong practical experience in temporary works and a good understanding of the design, construction and management processes associated with temporary works. You will ideally have: • Demonstrable experience working as a Temporary Works Coordinator on construction or infrastructure projects. • Experience relevant to the type, scale and complexity of temporary works associated with the project. • A strong understanding of temporary works procedures, design processes, risk management and site implementation. • Appropriate temporary works training and/or recognised industry experience. • Recent experience in a Temporary Works Coordinator role, supported by relevant training and professional development. • The ability to assess the competence of others involved in temporary works activities. • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with designers, site teams, clients, subcontractors and other stakeholders. • The ability to manage multiple temporary works packages and ensure designs and approvals are delivered to programme. • A proactive approach to identifying risks and resolving issues before they impact the project. • Formal qualifications such as an HNC, HND or degree in a relevant engineering or construction discipline would be desirable, although relevant experience will also be considered.
