Responsibilities: Senior/Principal Geotechnical Engineer who will be responsible for providing specialist geotechnical inputs to onshore projects, developing engineering scopes for ground investigations, reviewing and analysing geotechnical data (new data and legacy), providing geotechnical interpretation to generate reports and guidance to projects. In addition, developing and reviewing calculations, reports and other deliverables in accordance with the project plan will be required. Typically, the Senior/Principal Geotechnical Engineer works in a specialist role within the Civil and Structural engineering team, coordinating with other discipline specialists and with outside contractors and consultants, as required, to address all discipline specific requirements within the project regarding foundations, earthworks and other civil and geotechnical works.

Will work as a specialist engineer on feasibility, concept, FEED, detailed design or EPC/EPCM onshore projects. Will be a subject specialist within the specific area of geotechnical engineering. Additional capability and experience within civil and/or structural engineering roles and tasks would be an advantage. Technically responsible within a project for all geotechnical / soils engineering aspects of the project scope of work, including execution of project deliverables. Capable of formulating resolutions to technically challenging and/or high-profile issues and communicating effectively with project engineers, project management and clients. Undertakes specialist activities or reviews of geotechnical and civil engineering aspects, based on their high level of competency. Supervises, reviews and checks the geotechnical engineering activities. Works to the requirements of the Civil/ Structural Design Manual. Identifies and resolves discrepancies and divergences from the original proposal / contract by raising technical queries. Provides construction support, as required. Participates in engineering design reviews and provides all necessary geotechnical/civil input and support to the close-out of actions. Reviews relevant ITB documents submitted for proposals, and Scopes of Works received from clients as and when required. Responsible for planning and identifying resource requirements through the project, as applicable to specialism. Liaises with Kent Global Execution Centres (GEC), as necessary. Provides support to procurement/proposals including for geotechnical investigations & site surveys: prepares Scopes of Work, technical requisitions, reviews contractor/bid documentation and provides technical bid evaluation support to ensure compliance. Ensures compatibility and compliance with client specifications and recommends cost-effective/ value added improvements within the scope of client specifications and requirements. Consults with quality assurance on any issues relating to compliance with Kent’s ISO accredited QMS and project specific procedures, guides and standards. Supports the civil/ structural group manager in maintaining technical / specialism competence within the discipline and quality of delivery on projects.
Key Requirements: Master’s degree in engineering, Post Graduate and/or specialist qualification in Geotechnical Engineering. Related experience working for Engineering/Client organisations in the Oil and Gas sector and/or Low Carbon Energy Transition industry. Chartered Status preferred. Excellent technical skills and extensive experience in Geotechnics covering site investigation and characterisation, ground risk management, foundation design, soil-structure interaction and foundation installation. Experience of acting as a senior / principal geotechnical engineer within multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-moving engineering consultancy environment. Experience and understanding of the needs and approaches to the engineering consultancy and design markets. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and lead geotechnical design teams. Excellent communication skills and confidence to liaise with clients. Good commercial track record in negotiating and running successful jobs. Excellent report writing skills. Additional capability in civil and/or structural engineering roles and tasks would be an advantage.
