Environmental Technical Lead – Oil & Gas

Environmental Technical Lead – Oil and Gas role at Kent. Based in Aberdeen preferred, but other UK office locations will be considered. This is a leadership position within Kent\’s Environmental Team, focused on delivery, client development and growing the environmental specialists team.

About the job

Kent is looking for an Environmental Technical Lead – Oil and Gas to be ideally based in the Aberdeen office but will consider other UK office locations. This is an exciting opportunity to join the new Environmental Team in Kent and be a pivotal part of the growth and development of that team. The Oil and Gas Lead role will be demanding and varied with involvement in client development and bidding as well as technical delivery and leadership of the growing team of environmental specialists. The ideal candidate will have a background in delivering environmental support in the UK Oil and Gas sector and a strong desire to be a technical leader. The role will report directly into the Market Director Environment. Support and guidance will be provided in leadership, business development and technical delivery as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Overall technical lead for all environmental support to UK Oil and Gas projects.
  • Technical lead for project delivery, ensuring the quality of all environmental support provided to UK Oil and Gas projects.
  • Business development across Oil and Gas projects, building a portfolio of clients that rely on Kent for environmental and sustainability support and guidance.
  • Conducting related environmental and sustainability consultancy scopes for the Oil and Gas sector.
  • Provision of strategic environmental guidance and advice to clients.
  • Technical report authorship, checking, reviewing and approval.
  • Leading junior specialists on projects and providing technical guidance and mentoring support.
  • Preparation of cost estimates and bids for new work scopes.
  • Project management to ensure studies and projects are delivered within agreed scope, budgets and schedules.
  • Direct engagement with clients and developing strong relationships with existing and future clients.
  • Recruitment of new team members to match market growth.

Knowledge / Qualification / Training / Certification

  • Extensive experience delivering related environmental and sustainability services.
  • Degree(s) in a relevant subject matter.
  • Chartership of a relevant professional body (e.g. CEnv).
  • Experience working in the UK Energy industry, ideally on Oil and Gas projects.
  • Existing network of clients and industry contacts.
  • Experience leading work scopes to meet delivery and cost targets without compromising quality.
  • Familiar with relevant legislation and industry standards and able to apply this knowledge and advise clients.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports to a high standard and check the work of others.
  • Experience in a client-facing role, with understanding of commercial challenges relevant to a consultancy business, and ability to sell services and win work.
  • Experience of leading or contributing to successful bids and proposals.
  • Proactive in identifying and delivering opportunities to grow the business.

Communication

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Comfortable explaining environmental requirements to senior management.
  • Ability to present at conferences is desirable (support can be provided).
  • Excellent client engagement skills and ability to influence clients.
  • Excellent bid authoring knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to lead teams and establish clear communication to convey key messages in a timely manner.
