Consultant Materials and Corrosion Engineer
Kent is seeking a Consultant Materials & Corrosion Engineer to lead the activities in developing material design within project budget and determine timing for resource requirements. The successful candidate will serve as the liaison for inter-discipline engineering involved in the project and is accountable for overall discipline related activities for the successful completion of project, on schedule and within manpower and budget estimates.

We follow a hybrid working model with a requirement to be in the Woking office four days a week.

Role overview
Kent is looking for a Consultant Materials & Corrosion Engineer to lead the activities in developing material design within project budget and determining timing for resource requirements. The successful candidate will liaise with inter-discipline teams and be accountable for discipline-related activities for the project’s successful completion, on schedule and within manpower and budget estimates. This role supports a variety of opportunities in Low Carbon/ Energy Transition and traditional energy projects.
Working model
Hybrid working with in-office presence in Woking four days a week to foster team collaboration.
Skills & Responsibilities
- Provide expert capabilities in one or more fields of metallurgy
- Supervise a team of engineers for discipline-specific project requirements
- Perform duties with minimal supervision within agreed schedules and budgets
- Undertake discrete specialist studies or technology reviews under supervision
- Liaise with other disciplines to ensure design consistency
- Support Project Management in planning and identifying technical issues; interface with the client
- Provide input and support to project progress and reporting
- Support discipline group manager in developing engineers and ensuring technical excellence
- Work on feasibility, concept, FEED, detailed design or EPC projects as required
- Be technically responsible for metallurgy input and allocate supervision and deliverables
- Supervise and check materials activities including coatings, insulation, cathodic protection, material selection, calculations, drawings, datasheets, and technical requisitions
- Identify and resolve discrepancies from proposals/contracts and manage changes
- Participate in factory acceptance tests and vendor issue resolution
- Contribute to multi-discipline design reviews and close-out actions with metallurgy input
- Review ITB documents and prepare cost estimates and project execution inputs
- Plan metallurgy activities and determine manpower requirements
- Ensure compliance with client specifications and Kent’s ISO QMS
- Contribute to employee performance development and training needs
- Contribute to engineering projects (Oil & Gas, Hydrogen and Low Carbon) with material selection, corrosion assessment and deliverables
- Design and review coatings and painting systems for pipelines and buried structures; knowledge of cathodic protection is advantageous
- Knowledge of corrosion models (e.g., CO2, H2S, MIC) and coating/painting requirements
- Experience with CRAs and RBI is advantageous
- Prepare Materials Selection Philosophies, Reports and Materials Selection Diagrams; write Materials Specifications
- Experience with offshore/onshore oil and gas projects and international standards
- Typically holds a Master’s degree in Metallurgy or related field; Chartered status is preferred
- Significant relevant experience in oil and gas engineering/client contexts; consultancy/FEED/detailed design/EPC exposure
- Ability to manage project priorities and scheduling

- Chartered status preferred
- Significant experience in oil and gas engineering/client environments
- Exposure to consultancy, FEED/detailed design and EPC projects
- Knowledge of international and industry specifications, safety and quality procedures
- Knowledge of CO2, H2S, CO2 Dense Phase, H2, MIC and chlorides corrosion; ammonia and biofuel corrosion a plus
- Knowledge of coating and painting requirements and specifications
Communication
- Excellent command of English, both oral and written
