Lenham Primary is a school with a family feel within the village of Lenham, Kent. We have approximately 210 pupils on role. Description of Vacancy
We are looking for an enthusiastic and inspirational Apprentice Teaching Assistant to work at Lenham Primary School to work within our Reception class. We are looking for an individual who is determined to secure the absolute best for each pupil and will work hard to ensure every child achieves everything they are capable of.

Responsibilities
- Work with individuals or small groups of pupils in the classroom under the direct supervision of teaching staff and provide feedback to the teacher.
- Help pupils to understand instructions to support independent learning and inclusion of all pupils.
- Support the teacher in behaviour management and keeping pupils on task.
- Support pupils in social and emotional well-being, reporting problems to the teacher as appropriate.
- Prepare and clear up learning environments and resources, including photocopying, filing and the display and presentation of pupils work and contribute to maintaining a safe environment.
Teaching Assistants in this role may also undertake some or all of the following:
- Support children’s learning through play.
- Assist with break-time supervision including facilitating games and activities.
- Assist with escorting pupils on educational visits.
- Support pupils in using basic ICT.
- Assist with pupils’ personal needs including toileting, hygiene, dressing and eating, as well as help with social, welfare and health matters, reporting problems to the teacher as appropriate. Physically assist pupils in activities (may involve lifting, where mobility is an issue).
- Assist with pupils on therapy or care programmes, designed and supervised by a therapist / teacher
Wage
£7.55 per hour
£235 per week term time only.
You will be able to apply for discount cards for Local Authority employed school staff, such as Blue Light, which offers discounts at retailers and restaurants. We also provide access to additional health benefits including GP services 24/7.
Hours
This role is a term-time only for 38 weeks a year plus holiday entitlement. You will work 5 days per week Monday – Friday for a total of 31.25 hours per week inclusive of the 20% paid training hours.
Hours of work are 08.30am – 3.20pm each day which includes ½ hour unpaid break for lunch.
You may be required to work an additional 5 days per year which will be paid in addition to the annual salary.

Training Provided
Our programme offers a blended curriculum combining engaging online classes with adapted 1:1 support from a dedicated tutor. This tutor collaborates with both apprentices and employers to create a tailored programme designed to support your progression.
You’ll benefit from at least 7.14 average hours of weekly training or study time during your working hours.
You will be provided with additional training on school specific processes and policies, along with legislative educational updates on curriculum practices and safeguarding.
As of 1st April 2025, the NMW for Apprentices is £7.55 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.
The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training.
The employer has asked that you do not contact them directly. Doing so could jeopardise your application. You will be responsible for your travel expenses to and from your place of work. Therefore, you must have the means to get to your place of work on a daily basis whilst waiting for your first wages to be paid.
